The method of applying the Song of the Right Path first involves examining the True Five Elements [甲己合化真土🔥, 乙庚合化真金⚔️, 丙辛合化真水🌊, 丁壬合化真木🌳, 戊癸合化真火🔥—these are the True Five Elements], and carefully analyzing the relationship between truth and falsehood in success or failure [when the combination and transformation of heavenly stems and earthly branches are in a thriving state such as长生 (Longevity), 冠带 (Crown), 临官 (Advent), or 建旺 (Prosperity), they are considered True Five Elements; when they are weak and without energy, they are false].
When a Yin stem encounters a Yang stem for combination, it signifies nobility and official seals [when a Yin stem undergoes combination, it may symbolize official seals or the nobility of a husband, but it must be supported by the energy of the True Five Elements; without energy, it is false]; when a Yang stem encounters a Yin stem for combination, it signifies the origin of wealth and marriage [when a Yang stem undergoes combination with a Yin stem, it is generally related to wealth and marriage]. Combination in a declining land may indicate external relationships [if the combination occurs in a衰败之地 (declining state) such as a tomb or绝 (exhaustion), the aforementioned signs will manifest]; transformation in a thriving state foretells prosperity for descendants [combination in a thriving state such as长生 or冠带 predicts flourishing descendants].
Distinguish between internal and external combinations in the Heavenly Stem [differentiate between internal and external combinations: combination within one’s own stem and branch is internal, indicating reliance on ancestral legacy for success; combination with non-native stems is external, indicating establishing oneself away from home or leaving one’s homeland. For example,甲己 is an internal combination, while壬人见甲己, a combination with a non-native stem, is external]. Observe the孤门 (lonely gates) in the Four Pillars [this method does not refer to孤辰寡宿 (lonely stars), but rather to孤令 (lonely commands) in the year, month, day, hour, and fetal pillars: a lonely year pillar indicates distant ancestors’ loneliness, a lonely month pillar indicates parents’ loneliness, a lonely day pillar indicates siblings and spouse’s loneliness, and a lonely hour pillar indicates descendants’ loneliness. For example, in the八字甲子年, 丁丑月, 辛亥日, 甲午时, the lonely hour pillar indicates loneliness among descendants].
The upper generating the lower indicates poverty and low status [from the perspective of纳音 (Nayin): the year generating the month, the month generating the day, and the day generating the hour often indicate poverty and low status, and even if wealth and status are achieved, they are difficult to maintain. For example,甲子金年 generating丁丑水月,戊辰木日, and戊午火时 are all cases of the upper generating the lower]; the lower generating the upper indicates ambition and future progress [the hour generating the day, the day generating the month, the month generating the year, and the fetal pillar generating the year are all cases of the lower generating the upper, indicating ambition and success. For example,甲子金年,辛未土月,己卯土日,癸酉金时,壬戌水胎, with the hour generating the fetal, month, day, and year pillars, indicates fame, wealth, and ambition].
Having both食神 (food god) and鬼 (ghost) signifies official nobility [first encountering the food god and then the禄鬼 (salary ghost), if controlled, indicates official nobility, requiring energy. For example, a甲子金 person with丙寅火月 controlling庚辰金鬼, or a金 person first encountering water and then fire, also applies]; first encountering wealth and then逆 (adversity) also brings glory [first encountering the财神 (wealth god) and then the food god, if controlled, indicates official seals. For example, a甲子 person with戊辰月财 and壬寅日时食, with戊 controlling壬 as a seal].
Mutual clashes and conflicts in the Four Pillars [upper and lower stems and branches clashing, such as the hour and day clashing with the year, fetal, and month pillars]; seek the救神 (savior god) within the configuration [check if there is a savior god in the stems or sounds. For example, if a金 person encounters a火鬼, the presence of water as a savior brings good fortune]. Pure Yin or pure Yang indicates loneliness and widowhood [excessive Yang stems indicate Yang loneliness, excessive Yin stems indicate Yin widowhood; daytime births tend to have more Yang loneliness, nighttime births tend to have more Yin widowhood]; excessive combinations indicate remarriage [many combinations suggest multiple spouses for men and multiple husbands for women].
Stems, branches, and the Five Elements reveal geographical advantages [the stems and sounds gaining geographical advantage help discern nobility, low status, gains, and losses]; further examine the dynamics of天禄 (heavenly salary) and天马 (heavenly horse) [not the native禄 and马, but rather the heavenly禄 and马. For example, for a甲子金 person,丙寅 is the禄 and马, and having energy brings nobility]. 神杀 (deity killers) and劫亡 (calamities) are not fundamental [nobility and low status, gains and losses do not solely rely on deity killers]; the stems, branches, and Five Emperor Elements are the root [the ten stems and Five Elements are the true essence].
Repeated encounters with空亡 (empty voids) distinguish bias and correctness [Yang encountering Yang, Yin encountering Yin falling into emptiness; Yang encountering Yin, Yin encountering Yang not falling into emptiness]; 六害 (six harms) and三刑 (three punishments) distinguish the Five Elements [if the six harms and three punishments do not clash with the self, there is no blame; if they clash with the self, it is ominous]. 三奇 (three奇) in reverse or direct order are not truly noble [三奇 require Yang奇 in direct order and Yin奇 in reverse order; the native stem must have energy to be truly noble, otherwise it is false奇]; 六仪 (six ceremonies) have升降 (ascent and descent) [六仪 refer to the甲 stems within the旬 (cycle); encountering仪 in the year, month, day, or hour brings nobility. For example,辛未年 obtaining庚午月 is the year仪].
Excessive Five Elements meeting吞发 (devouring and emitting) in thriving states [encountering干鬼 controlling the food god in a旺相 (thriving) state brings salary and success]; dry defeat and sound imprisonment avoid conflicts [weak stems prefer stillness and avoid contention]. Thriving land with鬼 signifies official nobility [纳音 thriving state encountering干音鬼 brings nobility]; encountering officials in a败地 (defeated land) also brings ruthlessness [encountering官杀 (official killers) when the self-stem is in a defeated land turns them into ghosts].
Not limited to four aspects, borrow energy from others [when the Great Year (太岁) lacks energy, borrow strength from the month, day, and hour stems and sounds; the fetal element is not counted. For example, a甲子金 person with丙子水月,辛巳金日,乙未金时 borrows thriving energy for use]; wood encountering thriving metal mostly indicates strength [abundant wood encountering metal indicates strength; thriving brings benevolence, defeated land brings ruthlessness]. Fire entering离中 (Li center) generates all things [excessive fire without water leads to excess and no descendants]; metal in thriving states must suffer damage [excessive metal leads to damage; with fire, it forms tools and benefits fame]. Earth accumulated on mountain ridges remains mostly motionless [excessive earth forms mountains, with vast fields and forests]; excessive water warns of loss [excessive water leads to loss]; excessive wisdom brings unrest [thriving water brings unrest].
Advance and retreat of stems and branches reveal sequence [the ten stems moving from top to bottom retreat, moving from bottom to top advance]; ascent and descent of the Five Elements determine decline and rise [stems and sounds determine rise and fall]. Four孟 (start of seasons) entirely clear meeting response brings success [encountering thriving energy in the Four孟 brings success]; Four仲 (mid-seasons) all stable hold significant weight [子午卯酉 thriving brings wealth and status]; Four季 (end of seasons) with earth punishments avoid killers [辰戌丑未 encountering killers indicate household misfortunes and harm to elders].
Hexagrams matching the native family bring wealth and status [申子辰 water people encountering water hexagrams bring good fortune; fire people encountering them face reverse克制 (restriction) and misfortune]; people facing reverse克制必定有嗔 (anger) [fire people encountering water hexagrams, water people encountering earth hexagrams, etc., facing reverse克制 indicate anger]. Three limits year travel with major and minor officials [the month, day, and hour are the three masters, combined with the Great Year, major fortune, and minor fortune to discuss fortune and misfortune.
