The method for determining reversed limits is fully documented in the "Straightforward Guide." However, in practice, there are instances where death occurs before reaching the predetermined degree, termed ominous greeting; or death occurs after passing the degree, termed ominous sending. Sometimes, one should die but does not, due to the presence of a killing star without a blade star; other times, one should not die but does, due to the presence of a blade star without a killing star. This requires a balanced judgment combining both the yang and yin blades. The combined influence of the source and flow blades must also be considered.
If the original year blade or the flow year blade is triggered, and a killing star is engaged in conflict, death is certain. If there is no blade and no killing star, it is difficult to harm one's life. The classics state: daytime fears the yang blade 🔥, nighttime fears the yin blade 🌙; otherwise, death may not occur. There are also cases of dual blades greeting or sending, dual blades flanking or clamping the life limit, or blade stars clashing or overcoming the limit—all of which inevitably lead to death. If the life limit resides in the dual blade palace, or dual blade stars guard the life limit position, causing the lord star of the limit palace to be injured; or if the blade star combines with the degree lord star, death will also occur. If the degree lord star is overcome, and the blade star combines with the palace lord star, death similarly follows. A blade containing a killing star, a killing star containing a blade, or even a blade within a blade—all require discerning strength and weakness: if the lord star of the limit palace or degree is strong, life prevails; if weak, death ensues.
Yang stems include Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, Ren; yin stems include Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, Gui.
For example, for those born in the years of Bing or Wu, the yang blade is in the Wu position 🔥, the flying blade is in the Zi position 🌊, and the major limit reaching Wu or Zi constitutes the dual blade palace. Wu belongs to the Sun, Zi belongs to Earth, and the lunar mansions such as Xing, Liu, Xu, and Nü are the blade degrees. If within these degrees there is Wood Qi (Jupiter or Qi star), and Wood Qi is the killing star of Earth and the Sun, this is a blade concealing a killing star. Alternatively, if within the Earth or Sun degrees there is a Metal Star (Venus), it is termed a blade within a blade, and the same applies to the opposing or four cardinal positions. Another example: for those born in the years of Jia, Yi, Geng, or Xin, Mao, Xu, Chen, and You are the blade palaces, and Fire and Metal are the blade stars. When traversing the Fire or Metal degrees, if encountering Water, Bo (comet), Fire, or Luo (Mars) as related intercepting stars, it is termed a killing star concealing a blade. All such scenarios require vigilance.
A killing star refers to a celestial body that overcomes the degree lord star and is also a blade palace or blade degree, termed a killing star concealing a blade. If the blade degree encounters a Metal Star (Venus) as the killing lord, it is also named a blade.
A summary verse: If dual blades clamp the limit or life, such as the yang blade and flying blade clamping the life or limit, early demise is determined in the palace of strength or weakness. If the palace lord is strong, life prevails; if the degree lord is weak, death ensues. If the palace lord is injured and the blade combines with the degree, death follows; if the degree lord is injured and the blade combines with the palace, death follows. Even more concerning is the simultaneous arrival of blade and killing stars; if the palace or degree lord is injured and encounters the blade killing star, death occurs. Greeting and sending in critical periods are hard to avoid; if an ominous star encounters difficulty in greeting or sending, death follows. If the blade combines with the degree and also with the body, or if traversing a blade degree with a blade star guarding the life, examine the start and end for clamping limits or clamping the body. Injury from the front, impact from the rear, or hidden combinations arriving, with blades both fore and aft causing injury, and the limit overcoming the life. Mutual additions in the four cardinal points are also impermissible; if blade stars mutually add in the four cardinal points, death also occurs.
