This chapter compiles the essential口诀 (formulas) from various schools of Bazi (Eight Characters) destiny analysis, focusing on the Day Master as the core and specifically discussing the roles of Wealth Stars and Official Stars. The Official Star represents the foundation of self-support (e.g., career, status), while the Wealth Star is the source of life sustenance (e.g., wealth, resources). Thus, it is necessary to examine the timing of heavenly cycles 🌤, observe geographical influences 🏞, avoid extremes of excess or deficiency, and pursue balance and harmony as the guiding principle.
By adjusting inclusions and exclusions, and harmonizing configurations, one achieves rationality. Weighing the degrees of strength and weakness helps correct the root and clarify the source. First, observe the depth of the solar terms (e.g., the influence of the birth season), then discuss the alignment or opposition of Wealth and Official Stars (e.g., their strength and positions). In human destiny, Wealth and Official Stars are indispensable; across various patterns, there is always an implicit invitation to prosperity and nobility (hinting at opportunities for wealth and status). Ancient sages have established models, and later learners must adapt flexibly.
If the destiny pattern favors alignment but the luck cycle opposes it, it indicates poverty and low status; if the pattern favors opposition but the luck cycle aligns, it indicates hardship and weakness. If favorable elements are nurtured by growth, nobility can be attained; if afflicted by restraint, misfortune may prevail. When encountering an Official Star, observe the Wealth Star—seeing wealth brings nobility and riches; when encountering a Killing Star, observe the Resource Star—meeting resources brings glory and splendor. When encountering a Resource Star, observe the Official Star—meeting the Official Star often brings nobility in eight or nine out of ten cases; when encountering a Wealth Star, observe the Killing Star—if the Killing Star is originally present, poverty occurs in nine out of ten cases.
Wealth represents livelihood, as human life depends on it for survival. Exclude what is unusable, retain what is usable, moderate what is excessive, and pair what is complementary. "Transformation and legacy" refer to the presence or absence of prosperity, wealth, and status in the destiny, but nobility often requires a single flawless pattern.
For Day Masters Jia and Yi (Wood) entering the West (Metal luck), if the body is strong, fame and achievement are attainable; for Day Masters Ren and Gui (Water) encountering the South (Fire domain), if the body is robust, nobility is assured. Resource and Robbery Stars are not favorable when the body is overly strong; the Eating God Star most prefers the company of Robbery Wealth. Mixed Official and Killing Stars with a weak body lead to poverty; balanced Official and Killing Stars, with the Killing Star harmonized, bring nobility. Official Stars in the Year and Month pillars indicate early entry into official service; proper nobility in the Day and Hour pillars bring fame in later years. The Fetal Palace meeting the Resource Ribbon ensures abundant salary; Wealth Qi encountering the Longevity Stage brings fertile lands and vast wealth.
In autumn and winter, Official Stars meeting the Blade and Harm may preserve Metal and eliminate Fire, ensuring nobility; in the twelfth lunar month, the Hurting Officer favors meeting the Official Star, but breaking the Resource and severe harm may bring disaster and death. Those with strong Wealth generating Officials attain nobility with moderate wealth; those with Hurting Officer meeting Official attain high status with ample wealth. Without affliction, there is no nobility; with affliction, there is uniqueness—sometimes discarding certain elements is wise, as the principle is profound and requires no external seeking.
For example, if Fire is blazing and Water is scarce, meeting Geng and Xin (Metal), it cannot be judged as a strong body with light officials; if Earth is heavy and Wood is exhausted, meeting Ren and Gui (Water), it is difficult to decide as a strong body with light officials. Light Wealth should not meet Robbery territory; abundant Resources most favor Wealth domains. Strong Wealth generating Officials can use wealth to attain status; Killing Stars controlling the Blade can use treasures to seek fame. A strong body with Partial Wealth may obtain windfalls; a main body with Direct Wealth and Partial Robbery may frequently suffer wife-related disasters. Wealth Qi meeting the Longevity Stage, such as Geng (Metal) meeting Jia (Wood) in Hai (Water), etc.
Robbery Wealth and Yang Blade entering Official and Killing Stars indicate ministers in high offices; Returning禄 (Lu) countercharging meeting the Blade and Harm indicates nobility in court. A strong body with Killing Stars meeting the Resource Ribbon signifies authority and decision-making power; a weak body meeting Resources and seeing Wealth Stars indicates a common seeker. A controlled attached Blade and Partial Official may hold military or judicial positions; unafflicted Direct Official and Direct Resource may lead to governance roles. Strong Wealth in Earth-related roles indicates supply or logistics officials; Flying禄 facing the Sun indicates a court attendant.
The Yang Blade controlled by the Killing Star may engage in competitive ventures, hence "using treasures to seek fame." The purity of Qian (Heaven) and Kun (Earth) brings honor in the capital; the utmost reverence of Zi and Wu (North and South) brings nobility in imperial courts. Gui Day, Gui Hour, with Hai and Chou (Water), may achieve top honors and enter the Hanlin Academy; Ren Day, Ren Hour, with Yin and Chen (Wood), may receive high titles and grace the imperial courts.
Virtue of the Day meeting the Nobleman and Stern may lead to poverty even under good luck; the Nobleman and Stern meeting Wealth and Officials may bring clothing and food if appropriately positioned. Hurting Officer meeting Official is wonderful in Wealth and Resource domains; Wealth Stars breaking the Resource are noble in Comparison and Robbery territories. Destiny meeting Wealth, luck meeting Killing—good can be spoken; destiny meeting Killing, luck meeting Wealth—misfortune can be decided.
Women with many Hurting Officers, meeting Returning禄, are extremely auspicious; men meeting Yang Blade, with a weak body, find it unique. Golden Spirit Returning禄 and Barrier, most忌讳 for women; Yang Blade, Hurting Officer, and Seven Killings grant men authority. Golden Spirit entering Fire meeting Killing and Blade brings unquestionable nobility; heavy Killing with Resources meeting Eating and Hurting brings inherent glory. Direct Official and Direct Resource, in office, may not be prominent; Yang Blade and Seven Killings bring renown in official service.
A strong body with no reliance may become a monk or Taoist; Peach Blossoms rolling waves may indicate courtesans or servants. Weak Metal and strong Fire may indicate craftsmen in土木 (construction); abundant Earth and shallow Water may indicate merchants or tailors. Clouds encircling five lakes may bring initial glory but eventual disgrace and poverty; Peach Blossoms everywhere may indicate a life of romance and indulgence. Lost Spirit arching Killing may indicate thieves or robbers; lost elegance in untimely phases may indicate猜名 (speculative) individuals.
Strong Resources and strong body may lead to much noise and drink; Ding and Qian jealousy and合 may bring error; strong body and Resources ensure few illnesses in life; help from Heavenly and Lunar Virtues ensures a life without disaster. A thriving Eating God surpasses Wealth and Officials, with nobility fully in Official and Killing Stars. There are those who abandon destiny for Wealth, Killing, or Officials, attaining residual wealth and status; those with no reliance, specializing in conquest, devoid of food, wealth, or officials, face boundless poverty.
A weak body abandoning destiny without expansion may become a prime minister; a weak main body transforming in its time may approach the heavenly court. Men's destinies categorized into followings, transformations, reflections, ghosts, and subduals; women's destinies pure and harmonious bring clear nobility, while turbidity brings promiscuity. Delve into the details.
"Jia Ji" refers to abundant Earth, indicating roles in supply or official provisions; those obtaining the essence of heaven and earth are mostly noble. The Yang Blade cannot simply be called凶; a weak body delights in its authority. Direct Official and Direct Resource without Killing indicate scholarly officials, hence not prominent; many Zi, Wu, Mao, You (peach blossoms) are called "Peach Blossoms everywhere"; abandoning Metal must be complete, otherwise poverty follows. Men and women are distinguished into eight methods to determine nobility and baseness.
This chapter emphasizes Wealth and Official Stars as the foundation of destiny: Official Stars represent career and order (the basis of self-support), while Wealth Stars represent resources and survival (the source of life sustenance). Pursuing balance and harmony (avoiding excess or deficiency) is key. Through pattern analysis (e.g., Wealth-Official combinations, Killing-Resource interactions) and luck cycle adjustments, one can judge life's nobility, poverty, wealth, and baseness. It integrates various schools of thought, highlighting flexibility and practical application.
In modern society, this can be interpreted as: Personal development depends on the balance of resources (Wealth) and opportunities (Official). For example:
This reflects ancient Chinese harmony between heaven and humanity philosophy: Destiny is not static but a result of dynamic balance (harmony). It emphasizes the interaction between individuals and the environment (examining heavenly timing and geographical benefits), implying free will within constraints (luck can be adjusted but destiny is foundational). In modernity, this encourages us to accept innate conditions (destiny) but optimize life through effort and adaptation (luck), embodying a dialectical wisdom of living.
