Overall Paraphrased Meaning
The sun represents the essence of fire, belonging to yang; the moon represents the ultimate of water, belonging to yin. The sun moves from left to right, completing one cycle in a year; the moon returns from yin to yang, completing one cycle in thirty days. The Zi hour (11 PM–1 AM) is the true position of heaven, and the Yin hour (3–5 AM) is the constant position of earth. The four cardinal directions (Zi, Wu, Mao, You) are superior, with the left and right serving as gateways, operating the mechanism of yin-yang rotation, corresponding to the patterns of heaven and earth's waxing and waning. The sixty-year cycle of heavenly stems and earthly branches aligns with the sun god, with further details provided later.
In the combinations of the six harmonies:
The above covers the content of all three volumes.
Mutual growth and nourishment: For example, the Nayin of Jiwei is Heaven Fire 🔥, and when encountering Gengwu Roadside Earth ⛰, fire generates earth, while Ji earth also generates Geng metal, forming a nurturing relationship.
Mutual clash and completion: Refers to heavenly clash and earthly strike, such as Jiazi Sea Gold encountering Gengwu Roadside Earth ⛰. Although the heavenly stem Jia wood clashes with earth, and the earthly branches Zi and Wu clash, the Nayin earth generates metal, thus completing each other and forming a noble pattern.
The Yi-Geng combination is the proper union of husband and wife, most favorable for women in their fate.
The Wu-Gui combination means men marry virtuous wives, and women marry handsome husbands.
The Gui-Wu combination means men marry older women, and women marry older men.
When Nayin is self-prosperous, even if a "ghost" (what restrains me) comes to restrain it, the ghost will naturally perish.
If the ghost is prosperous and the body is weak and restrained, it indicates a short life or premature death.
Accumulating yin virtue can extend life, while encountering harm will reduce longevity.
Clash leads to movement: Where there is clash, there must be mutual growth. For example, Xinsi White Wax Gold clashes with Guihai Sea Water 🌊. Xin metal generates Gui water, and Nayin metal generates water, indicating movement and a fortunate, noble fate.
Break leads to lowliness: For example, Jimao City Wall Earth clashes with Jiyou Great Road Earth ⛰, with no mutual growth relationship. The clash and break are unfavorable, indicating ominous movement.
The Caizhen Song states: When reading a fate, focus on the heavenly stems first, checking for restraint or punishment; then examine the earthly branches for clashes and penalties; finally, check Nayin for conflicts.
It also says: Encountering clash first breaks, then completes.
There are three types of five-element harmonious spirits: stem harmony, six harmony, and three harmony. Harmony with mutual growth brings fortune; harmony with mutual harm brings misfortune.
Those with few harmonious combinations tend to have few allies and little support.
Those with many five-element "ghosts": What restrains me is the official ghost. For example, a Jiazi-born person encountering Bingshen (fire restrains metal), or a Yichou-born person encountering Dingyou (fire restrains metal), etc.
Another example: Yin-Wu-Xu people encountering Shen-Zi-Chen water formation 🌊 is called a ghost formation, indicating deceitfulness and lack of substance, often attracting disputes and slander.
Jiawu loves the official ghost because Jiawu is refined gold, favored by Nayin fire 🔥 for tempering.
Xinyou seeks growth and prosperity because Xinyou is pomegranate wood 🌱, which thrives in summer and autumn.
Remaining in growth: For example, obtaining the solar term of March at the end of February indicates wealth and nobility but ultimately no later blessings, called a "posterity-less noble."
Earth’s growth: Water and earth both grow in Shen, but earth also grows in Si? This is because earth is divided into substance and function: Substance earth resides in the center and is unused, growing in Si; functional earth is scattered in the four corners, prospering in the last 18 days of each season and growing in Shen. Substance is born in Si, carrying parental blessings; function is born in Shen, inheriting the parental position.
The禄 (blessing) causing illness due to eating requires the presence of a煞 (negative influence) restraining the body to take effect.
Example: Bingzi, Wuxu, Guiwei, Dingsi
Bingzi water fate 🌊, Bing’s禄 is in Si, Zi fate’s劫煞 (calamity) is in Si. Here, Dingsi earth ⛰, the禄 acts as the劫煞 ghost restraining the body, indicating illness caused by diet.
Pattern
Example: A Jiaren person encountering Bingyin and also seeing the Si character enters the pattern. Jia’s禄 is in Yin, concealed as Bingyin. Bing’s禄 is in Si, and encountering Bing’s禄 again follows this pattern. Those entering the pattern have both blessings and禄, with slight additional fortune, potentially reaching fifth-rank nobility or significant wealth.
Example: Jiachen, Bingyin, Guiyou, Dingsi
The Hai-Mao-Wei horse three periods should not sit on the Si horse. If one period sits on the horse, youth is smooth but later poor; if all three periods see the horse, even with official status, one ends lowly.
Song says: Hai-Mao-Wei people sitting on the horse position, men often face setbacks, women face loneliness and poverty. If the three periods appear repeatedly, it is hard to achieve fame among officials.
Example: A Jiwai-born person, Jisi month, Guimao day, Guihai hour. Hai-Mao-Wei all see the Si horse. The horse is the禄’s end, and indeed lost at forty-two.
Another example: A Guihai-born person, Dingsi month, Dingyou day, Xinhai hour. Guihai’s stems and branches are both water 🌊. Three fates reaching Si are all exhausted. Also, Guihai people use fire 🔥 as wealth, but fire dies in You and is utterly exhausted in Hai. Their father was an official, but this person begged for food until death.
