Overall Meaning
Through the interactions of the Five Elements and Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, the selection of the Eight Patterns and the Useful God can grasp eighty to ninety percent of a destiny. However, there are special patterns that go beyond conventional fate analysis and cannot be covered by the Eight Patterns, hence the establishment of Special Patterns. There are numerous types of Special Patterns, and here, we select those that align with fate principles and have verified value, discussing them as follows.
The day master is Jia (甲) or Yi (乙), born in spring. The Earthly Branches form the complete Wood combination of Yin-Mao-Chen (East) or Hai-Mao-Wei (Wood combination). Additionally, there are no Metal elements like Geng, Xin, Shen, or You in the four pillars.
Example 1:
Ren Yin (壬寅), Gui Mao (癸卯), Jia Chen (甲辰), Jia Zi (甲子)
Jia Wood is born in the Mao month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Eastern Wood combination of Yin-Mao-Chen. The Heavenly Stems are nourished by Ren and Gui Water and supported by Jia Wood. There is no Geng, Xin, Shen, or You Metal to clash or overcome, making this Qu Zhi Ge.
Example 2:
Gui Hai (癸亥), Yi Mao (乙卯), Yi Mao (乙卯), Gui Wei (癸未)
Yi Wood is born in the Mao month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Wood combination of Hai-Mao-Wei. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Gui Water and Yi Wood, with no Metal elements to clash or overcome, also making this Qu Zhi Ge.
Since the pattern is Qu Zhi, all the essence gathers in the Wood nature of the day master. Thus, Wood is the Useful God, and Metal is avoided as it overcomes Wood. Water and Wood are favorable for assistance. Fire, which drains the essence, is also good. Earth represents the Wealth Star, and if Fire transforms it, it is not avoided.
The day master is Bing (丙) or Ding (丁), born in summer. The Earthly Branches form the complete Fire combination of Si-Wu-Wei (South) or Yin-Wu-Xu (Fire combination), with no Water elements like Ren, Gui, Hai, or Zi.
Example 1:
Ding Si (丁巳), Bing Wu (丙午), Bing Yin (丙寅), Yi Wei (乙未)
Bing Fire is born in the Wu month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Southern Fire combination of Si-Wu-Wei. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Yi, Bing, and Ding, with no Ren, Gui, Hai, or Zi Water to clash or overcome, making this Yan Shang Ge.
Example 2:
Bing Xu (丙戌), Jia Wu (甲午), Ding Mao (丁卯), Ren Yin (壬寅)
Ding Fire is born in the Wu month. Although there is Ren Water in the pillar, it has no root energy and combines with the day master Ding Fire. The Earthly Branches form the Fire combination of Yin-Wu-Xu, and the Heavenly Stems are supported by Jia and Bing. There is no Gui Water or Zi Water, also making this Yan Shang Ge.
Since the pattern is Yan Shang, all the essence gathers in the Fire nature of the day master. Thus, Fire is the Useful God, and Water is avoided as it extinguishes Fire. Wood and Fire are favorable for assistance. Earth, which drains the essence, is also good. Metal represents the Wealth Star, and if Earth transforms it, it is not hindered.
The day master is Wu (戊) or Ji (己), born in the months of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei (the four Earth seasons). The Earthly Branches form a complete Earth combination or the four pillars are purely Earth, with no Wood elements like Jia, Yi, Yin, or Mao.
Example 1:
Wu Xu (戊戌), Ji Wei (己未), Wu Chen (戊辰), Gui Chou (癸丑)
Wu Earth is born in the Wei month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Earth combination of Chen-Xu-Chou-Wei. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Wu and Ji Earth, with no Jia, Yi, Yin, or Mao to clash or overcome, making this Jia Se Ge.
Example 2:
Wu Chen (戊辰), Ji Wei (己未), Ji Wei (己未), Wu Chen (戊辰)
Ji Earth is born in the Wei month, with the Earthly Branches Chen and Wei both belonging to Earth. The Heavenly Stems form a pure Earth energy, with no Wood to overcome, also making this Jia Se Ge.
Since the pattern is Jia Se, all the essence gathers in the Earth nature of the day master. Thus, Earth is the Useful God, and Wood is avoided as it overcomes Earth. Fire and Earth are favorable for assistance. Metal, which drains the essence, is also excellent. Water represents Wealth, and if Metal transforms it, it is not hindered.
The day master is Geng (庚) or Xin (辛), born in autumn. The Earthly Branches form the complete Metal combination of Shen-You-Xu (West) or Si-You-Chou (Metal combination), with no Fire elements like Bing, Ding, Wu, or Wei.
Example 1:
Wu Shen (戊申), Xin You (辛酉), Geng Xu (庚戌), Yi You (乙酉)
Geng Metal is born in the You month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Western Metal combination of Shen-You-Xu. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Wu and Xin, with no Bing, Ding, Wu, or Wei Fire to clash or overcome, making this Cong Ge Ge.
Example 2:
Wu Xu (戊戌), Xin You (辛酉), Xin Si (辛巳), Ji Chou (己丑)
Xin Metal is born in the You month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Metal combination of Si-You-Chou. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Wu, Ji, and Xin, with no Bing, Ding, Wu, or Wei to overcome, also making this Cong Ge Ge.
Since the pattern is Cong Ge, all the essence gathers in the Metal nature of the day master. Thus, Metal is the Useful God, and Fire is avoided as it overcomes Metal. Earth and Metal are favorable for assistance. Water, which drains the essence, is also excellent. Wood represents Wealth, and if Water transforms it, it is not hindered.
The day master is Ren (壬) or Gui (癸), born in winter. The Earthly Branches form the complete Water combination of Hai-Zi-Chou (North) or Shen-Zi-Chen (Water combination), with no Earth elements like Wu, Ji, Wei, or Xu.
Example 1:
Ren Shen (壬申), Ren Zi (壬子), Ren Chen (壬辰), Geng Zi (庚子)
Ren Water is born in the Zi month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Water combination of Shen-Zi-Chen. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Geng and Ren, with no Wu, Ji, Wei, or Xu Earth to clash or overcome, making this Run Xia Ge.
Example 2:
Xin Hai (辛亥), Geng Zi (庚子), Gui Chou (癸丑), Gui Chou (癸丑)
Gui Water is born in the Zi month, with the Earthly Branches forming the Northern Water combination of Hai-Zi-Chou. The Heavenly Stems are supported by Geng, Xin, and Gui, with no Wu, Ji, Wei, or Xu Earth to overcome, also making this Run Xia Ge.
Since the pattern is Run Xia, all the essence gathers in the Water nature of the day master. Thus, Water is the Useful God, and Earth is avoided as it overcomes Water. Metal and Water are favorable for assistance. Wood, which drains the essence, is also excellent. Fire represents Wealth, and if Wood transforms it, it is not hindered.
The day master is weak, born in a Wealth month, and should logically take the Direct or Indirect Wealth as the pattern. The Earthly Branches are purely Wealth locations or form Wealth combinations. The Heavenly Stems further reveal characters that produce Wealth, but the day master has no vitality and cannot handle Wealth, so it must follow the Wealth energy.
Example 1:
Geng Xu (庚戌), Yi You (乙酉), Bing Shen (丙申), Ji Chou (己丑)
Bing Fire day master is born in the You month (death ground), with Direct Wealth in season. The Earthly Branches are all Wealth locations: Shen, You, Xu. Yi Wood in the Heavenly Stems is combined with Geng, and Ji Earth further produces Wealth. The day master has no vitality and cannot handle Wealth, making this Cong Cai Ge.
Example 2:
Wu Shen (戊申), Xin You (辛酉), Ding Si (丁巳), Xin Chou (辛丑)
Ding Fire day master is born in the You month (Wealth ground), with the Earthly Branches forming the Wealth combination of Si-You-Chou-Shen. The Heavenly Stems Wu and Xin further support the Wealth Star. The day master has no energy, so it is also considered Cong Cai Ge.
Since it is Cong Cai Ge, all the essence gathers in the followed Wealth. Thus, Wealth is the Useful God. It favors the Food God, Injury Officer, and Wealth Star for support. It avoids the Compare and Rob Wealth stars. It also avoids the Seal Star, which aids the body. Meeting the Official Star is not hindered.
The day master is weak, the Seven Killings are strong and numerous, and there is no Seal Star to produce the body. The weak body cannot handle the Killings, so it must follow the Killings.
Example:
Wu Xu (戊戌), Xin You (辛酉), Yi You (乙酉), Yi You (乙酉)
Yi Wood day master is born in the You month (absolute ground), with the year, day, and hour branches all in tomb or absolute ground. The Seven Killings are in season and numerous. Yi Wood has no vitality and cannot handle them, so it must follow the Killings, making this Cong Sha Ge.
Since it is Cong Sha Ge, its power lies entirely in the Killings. Thus, the Killings are the Useful God. However, unlike ordinary patterns that use Killings, this pattern uniquely favors Wealth and Killings for growth. It avoids the Seal Star, which drains the Killings and produces the body. The Compare and Rob Wealth stars resisting the Killings are also unfavorable.
Note: If the day master is weak, the Direct Officer is strong and numerous, and there is no Seal to produce the body, making the weak body unable to handle the Officer, it can be considered Cong Guan Ge (Following Officer Pattern). Its Useful God preferences and avoidances are the same as Cong Sha Ge.
The day master is weak, with no Seal to produce the body. The Injury Officer or Food God is in season, or the Heavenly Stems form alliances, and the Earthly Branches form combinations. The weak body cannot handle the excessive drainage, so it must follow them. The Injury Officer and Food God are produced by the day master, hence the name Cong Er Ge.
Example:
Ding Mao (丁卯), Ren Yin (壬寅), Gui Mao (癸卯), Bing Chen (丙辰)
Gui Water is born in early spring, with Wood strong and in power. The Earthly Branches form the Eastern combination of Yin-Mao-Chen. There is no Metal in the four pillars. The day master is drained without being produced, making it unable to handle this strong Wood. It has no choice but to follow, forming Cong Er Ge.
Since it is Cong Er Ge, the Injury Officer or Food God is the essence and the Useful God. It does not fear the Compare and Rob Wealth stars (as they can produce and assist the Injury Officer and Food God). It favors encountering the Wealth Star, called "children producing children," where the essence flows. Meeting the Official or Killing Star is unfavorable, as they overcome the body and conflict with the Injury Officer and Food God. The most avoided is the Seal Ribbon, as it controls the Injury Officer and Food God. Meeting the Injury Officer or Food God assists the Useful God and is naturally favorable.
The four pillars are all Compare and Rob Wealth stars, with no Official or Killing stars to restrict them, or there are Seal Ribbons to support them. This is extreme prosperity, so it must follow the prosperous energy.
Example:
Gui Mao (癸卯), Yi Mao (乙卯), Jia Yin (甲寅), Yi Hai (乙亥)
Jia Wood is born in mid-spring, with the Earthly Branches meeting the prosperity of two Mao, the禄 of Yin, and the production of Hai. The Heavenly Stems have Yi Wood as Compare and Rob Wealth and Gui Water as Seal Ribbon, making it extremely prosperous. There are no Wealth, Official, Injury Officer, or Food God stars to take, so it must be considered Cong Wang Ge.
Since it is Cong Wang Ge, the Compare and Rob Wealth stars are the Useful God. It favors the Seal Ribbon and Compare and Rob Wealth stars for support. Meeting the Official or Killing Star is called violating prosperity, bringing immediate disaster. Encountering the Wealth Star leads to fierce competition for wealth, with a slim chance of survival. If the Seal is light in the configuration, meeting the Injury Officer or Food God is not hindered.
The four pillars have heavy Seal Ribbons, and there are also many Compare and Rob Wealth stars. The day master is in season, with no Wealth Star or Official Killing energy. This is called "two people同心." It should be followed, not opposed, making it Cong Qiang Ge.
Example:
Ren Zi (壬子), Gui Mao (癸卯), Jia Zi (甲子), Jia Zi (甲子)
Jia is born in the Mao month, at its most prosperous time. The Heavenly Stems have Ren and Gui Water as Seals and Jia Wood as Compare. The Earthly Branches have three Zi Water friends, with no Wealth or Official traces. It is extremely strong, leaving no choice but to follow its strength.
Since it is Cong Qiang Ge, the strong energy is the Useful God (Seal Ribbon and Compare and Rob Wealth stars are used together). Meeting the Compare and Rob Wealth stars or Seal Ribbon follows the strong energy and is most auspicious. The Injury Officer or Food God will inevitably bring misfortune due to clashes with the Seal Ribbon. Encountering the Wealth Star or Official Killing Star is called provoking the strong energy, bringing great disaster.
Example 1: Wu Chen (戊辰), Ren Xu (壬戌), Jia Chen (甲辰), Ji Si (己巳)
Jia Wood is born in late autumn, with Earth prosperous and in power. Jia and Ji combine and transform into Earth, with no other Wood to break it. The pattern is pure.
Example 2: Jia Shen (甲申), Gui You (癸酉), Yi Chou (乙丑), Geng Chen (庚辰)
Yi and Geng combine and transform into Metal. It is mid-autumn, and the transformation energy is in season. The four pillars have no Fire to break it, making it an outstanding destiny.
Example 3: Jia Chen (甲辰), Bing Zi (丙子), Xin Chou (辛丑), Ren Chen (壬辰)
Winter Water is strong. Bing and Xin combine and transform into Water, and Ren Water’s original spirit appears, making it extremely wonderful. Chen and Chou are wet Earth and are not considered breaking the transformation.
Example 4: Yi Mao (乙卯), Ding Mao (丁卯), Ren Wu (壬午), Gui Mao (癸卯)
Ding and Ren combine and transform into Wood. It is mid-spring, when Wood is most prosperous. The pattern is pure, and the absence of Metal in the eight characters is particularly valuable.
Example 5: Bing Xu (丙戌), Wu Xu (戊戌), Gui Si (癸巳), Jia Yin (甲寅)
Wu and Gui combine and transform into Fire. Although it is not summer, Bing and Si Fire lead the transformation, and Jia Yin Wood assists the transformation. There is no Water to overcome it, making the transformation more than sufficient.
(1) Failure due to overcoming. Example:
Geng Xu (庚戌), Wu Zi (戊子), Xin Wei (辛未), Bing Shen (丙申)
Bing and Xin combine. It is mid-winter, originally transformable into Water, but Wu, Wei, and Xu Earth compete to overcome Water, breaking the pattern.
(2) Failure due to jealousy. Example:
Jia Xu (甲戌), Ding Mao (丁卯), Ren Wu (壬午), Ding Wei (丁未)
It is mid-spring, with Wood prosperous. Ding and Ren can transform into Wood, but two Ding jealousy combine with one Ren, making the combination unfocused and difficult to transform.
(3) Failure due to transformation clash. Example:
Ren Chen (壬辰), Ding Wei (丁未), Jia Zi (甲子), Ji Si (己巳)
Jia and Ji transform into Earth in late summer, but the year and month Ding and Ren transform into Wood, which overcomes Earth. The transformation energy breaks the transformation energy, failing the pattern.
(1) Failure due to overcoming, recovered. Example:
Xin You (辛酉), Bing Shen (丙申), Yi Chou (乙丑), Geng Chen (庚辰)
Yi and Geng transform into Metal in autumn, fearing Bing Fire breaking Metal. Fortunately, the year stem Xin Metal ties up Bing Fire, turning failure into success through combination.
Jia Zi (甲子), Wu Chen (戊辰), Bing Shen (丙申), Xin Mao (辛卯)
The Chen month branch forms Shen-Zi-Chen. Bing and Xin transform into Water, fearing Wu Earth breaking the transformation. However, Jia Wood controls Wu, turning failure into success through overcoming.
Jia Xu (甲戌), Ding Chou (丁丑), Jia Shen (甲申), Ji Si (己巳)
Jia and Ji transform into Earth in season. Unfortunately, the year Jia Wood breaks Earth. Fortunately, Ding Fire drains Jia and produces Earth, turning failure into success through production.
(2) Failure due to jealousy, recovered. Example:
Ren Yin (壬寅), Ding Wei (丁未), Ren Zi (壬子), Ding Wei (丁未)
Ren day has Ding on both sides, failing to transform into Wood due to jealousy. However, the year stem is also Ren, forming two Ding and two Ren matching each other, turning failure into success through combination.
Ding Chou (丁丑), Xin Hai (辛亥), Bing Wu (丙午), Xin Mao (辛卯)
Bing Fire is born in winter. Two Xin jealousy combine, unable to transform into Water. Fortunately, the year Ding overcomes the month Xin, and Bing combines with the hour Xin to transform into Water, turning failure into success through overcoming.
(1) Distant positions. Example:
Xin Hai (辛亥), Geng Zi (庚子), Bing Yin (丙寅), Ren Chen (壬辰)
Bing is born in the Zi month, with Xin revealed in the year. The year and day are distant, making combination勉强. How can it transform into Water?
(2) Not in season. Example:
Bing Wu (丙午), Wu Xu (戊戌), Ding Hai (丁亥), Ren Yin (壬寅)
Ding and Ren are closely combined, but it is not the Wood season, making transformation into Wood difficult. Even if transformed, it is not prosperous, so the pattern does not成立.
Since it is Hua Qi Ge, it naturally favors supporting the transformation energy. However, if the transformation energy is too strong, it may favor drainage, making the drainage the Useful God. Or, if the transformation pattern encounters breaking but is saved, the savior becomes the Useful God. However, never use the character that breaks the transformation energy as the Useful God. What follows the Useful God is favorable; what opposes it is avoided.
The month branch is the禄 position of the day master:
The month branch is the guiding principle of the destiny configuration. The Eight Patterns are derived from it, and the strength of the day master is determined by it. Obtaining禄 in the guiding principle means first gaining the prosperous energy of the month, so the day master will not be weak. Like a person full of spirit, they can always achieve things. If matched with appropriate Wealth, Official, Seal, or Food God, it will surely be a favorable destiny. Obtaining禄 in the year, day, or hour branches has weaker辅助 strength. Although many common books take them as patterns, they are not as important as Jian Lu.
The month branch is the Blade of the day master:
For Jia day in Mao month, Geng day in You month, and Ren day in Zi month, the month建立 is all Rob Wealth. Rob Wealth cannot be taken as a pattern, so Yue Ren is taken instead. As the Blade is an extremely prosperous location, the day master is already extremely strong. If there is abundant Wealth or Killing, it can be a favorable destiny. However, it should not have more assistance, otherwise it becomes a lower destiny.
The Blade is prosperity beyond its share, always a凶暴 thing. When in the guiding principle, its power is stronger and must be配置得当 to assist the body and oppose the Killing. Otherwise, it robs Wealth and breeds disaster, with a significant impact. Except for Jia day in Mao month, Geng day in You month, and Ren day in Zi month, where no other pattern can be taken, the following destinies should avoid the Blade pattern and take another pattern:
Special Patterns summarize situations that go beyond conventional fate analysis. Their essence is the high concentration and purification of a certain Five Elements energy, forming an extreme state of "prosperity of one energy," which requires following its momentum for use.
In modern society, these special patterns can be understood as "extreme talents" or "professional inclinations" in personal fate analysis. For example, Cong Cai Ge may suit finance and economics, Cong Sha Ge may suit military or management roles, and Hua Qi Ge shows strong adaptability and transformation abilities. The key is to recognize one's pattern characteristics and choose a suitable development direction.
Understanding Special Patterns helps more accurately grasp personal fate traits and provides reference for career choices and development directions. However, note that although Special Patterns are unique, they must be analyzed in combination with the entire destiny configuration. One cannot determine good or bad fortune simply upon seeing a special pattern.
The existence of Special Patterns reflects the dialectical thinking of fate analysis—beyond the常规 there is the special, and within the special there are rules. This philosophical view of "constant and change" applies not only to fate analysis but also to our understanding of all things in the world.

Conclusion on Special Patterns
Special Patterns are established in八字 because they go beyond conventional situations. However, even beyond convention, there are rules; otherwise, it would be chaotic and directly result in a lower destiny. The above Special Patterns, though few, all adhere strictly to rules by embodying the prosperity of one energy, unlike other patterns that are迂回曲折 or散漫无纪. Jian Lu and Yue Ren obtain prosperity from the month; Qu Zhi, Yan Shang, etc., obtain prosperity from the season and form combinations or directions; Cong Ge prospers from the followed energy, not the day master itself; Hua Qi Ge成立 through the prosperity of the transformation energy—different paths lead to the same outcome, all achieved through the word "prosperity." If the body is prosperous but the month is not its prosperity, or branches only have Hai-Wei, Mao-Chen making Qu Zhi incomplete, following the Official but having root energy, following Children but having Official or Seal, following Prosperity or Strength but having slight Wealth or Official, combining and transforming but not in season—all are lower destinies and cannot be mentioned in the same breath as Special Patterns. The difference is vast and must be carefully examined. Hua Qi Ge has more variations, but its principles can be understood, though it is not easy to deduce. For example, Ji combining with Jia is still Earth, Geng combining with Yi is still Metal. However, single Ji Earth meeting Ding, Ren, or Bing is naturally discussed as Seal or Wealth; Jia-combined Earth meeting Ding or Ren is discussed as Wood. This is because the day master transforms due to combination, and other stems can also transform upon meeting combination, but Earthly Branches meeting combination are not discussed as transformation (because branches conceal more than one character, and Earthly Branches are complex, making transformation不胜化). Some may ask about the difference between Cong Wang and Cong Qiang: Cong Wang itself is prosperous, with Seal Ribbon as the guest; Cong Qiang has the body and Seal equally prosperous. These are two clearly distinct meanings.
