The San Ming Tong Hui states: A Day Master of Wu (戊) or Ji (己) Earth born in the Chen (辰), Wei (未), Chou (丑), or Xu (戌) months (the four Earthly Branch months representing the seasons' transition) can form the Farming (稼穑) Pattern 🌱. This pattern favors seeing Wood as the Officer Star, but only one Wood is sufficient (excessive Wood can deplete the Earth, potentially leading to hypocritical individuals who ruin the family). Chen and Wei are damp Earth; encountering Si (巳) or Wu (午) Fire to warm the configuration can bring nobility, but Fire should not be overly strong (otherwise, the Earth becomes parched and cannot nurture all things 🔥). Chou and Xu are cold Earth that store Metal; it is unfavorable to see more Metal (Metal drains Earth's energy and harbors a harsh aura ❄️), and it is also unfavorable to see heavy cold Earth again. Autumn Earth, as it stores Metal, is considered "dead Earth"; Winter Earth, as it contains Water, is "muddy silt." Only the Earth of the four seasonal transition months can achieve the virtue of Farming.
Poem One:
Wu and Ji Earth born in the four seasonal months is most auspicious; cautiously guard against Chou and Xu cold Earth damaging Metal's energy.
If obtaining Wood to loosen or Fire to warm 🌞, fortune, emolument, honor, and nobility can be expected.
Poem Two:
Wu and Ji take root within the four central months; Chen, Wei, Chou, and Xu must be encountered.
Wealth Star is favorable, Officer and Kill Stars are unfavorable 🚫; the Wood luck of the East will certainly bring misfortune.
| Original Configuration Issue | Modern Coping Suggestions |
|---|---|
| Weak Earth with Vigorous Wood | Avoid scattered investments; focus on core areas |
| Parched Earth with Strong Fire | Implement a cooling-off period 🌬️ during impulsive decision-making |
| Cold Earth with Heavy Metal/Water | Proactively seek cooperation to supplement resources (introduce Fire to warm the configuration) |
| Eastern Wood Luck | Be cautious of expansionary policies (e.g., operating on debt) |
The essence of "Farming" is the practical philosophy of bearing all things with profound virtue:
