Overall Meaning
The method for setting up the Celestial Plate starts from the You position and adds the earthly branches clockwise: Zi corresponds to You, Chou to Xu, Yin to Hai, Mao to Zi, Chen to Chou, Si to Yin, Wu to Mao, Wei to Chen, Shen to Si, You to Wu, Xu to Wei, and Hai to Shen. 🌍 Both the Celestial Plate and the Earth Plate must include all twelve earthly branches (Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu, Hai). For example, if a person’s Life Palace is in the Zi position, the Celestial Plate is positioned at the Mao position, aligned with the Mao position of the Earth Plate. Then, the eleven luminaries (such as Mars, Jupiter, etc.) are marked on the Earth Plate—if Mars is in the Mao position of the Earth Plate, the Mao position of the Celestial Plate is also marked with Mars. Various malignant stars and auspicious stars are marked on the upper and lower plates respectively. Next, the Mao position of the Celestial Plate is superimposed onto the Zi position of the Earth Plate. If there are more auspicious stars after superposition, misfortunes can be averted 🔥; if malignant stars dominate, life will be full of hardships ⛈️. Judging holistically according to this method yields accurate results.
The dynamic correspondence between the Celestial Plate and the Earth Plate predicts the trajectory of fate through the distribution of stars (auspicious and malignant stars), emphasizing the interaction between heaven and earth in influencing individual fortunes.
This is similar to the house system or data mapping in modern astrology: transforming abstract celestial positions into symbolic analysis of life events. In a modern context, it can be used for personal fortune assessment but should be combined with rational thinking to avoid absolutism—the positions of stars are more like trend indicators rather than deterministic prophecies.
It reflects the ancient Chinese cosmological view of "harmony between heaven and humanity": the harmony or disharmony between the micro (individual) and macro (heaven and earth) determines fate. This inspires us to value the balance between the environment and the self rather than viewing events in isolation.
Overall Meaning
The method for the Earth Plate starts from the Mao position and counts the earthly branches counterclockwise: Zi connects with Mao, Chou with Yin, Yin with Chou, Mao with Zi, Chen with Hai, Si with Xu, Wu with You, Wei with Shen, Shen with Wei, You with Wu, Xu with Si, and Hai with Chen. 🌊 For example, when the Life Palace is established in the Zi position, the connecting position is in the Mao palace. If the Mao palace has auspicious stars such as the Star of Prosperity, Palace Chariot, Noble Person, Literary Star, Heavenly Kitchen, Two Virtues of Heaven and Moon, Red Phoenix, Heavenly Joy, Solution God, or Fire Star Mother, life will be smooth and auspicious 🎉; but if the connecting position encounters malignant energies or malignant stars (such as the Star of Misfortune or Evil Luminaries) like the Blade of Sheep or Death and Calamity, life will be full of hardships and difficulties ⚠️. Learners must carefully calculate, as predictions of good and bad fortune will come true.
The "connecting" relationships between earthly branches (such as Zi and Mao) form the basis for fortunes and misfortunes, and the combination of stars in the connecting position directly determines the smoothness or adversity of life.
This is a symbolic association system: the connection of earthly branches represents the flow or obstruction of energy, similar to "associative thinking" in modern psychology or data network analysis. In modern life, it can be interpreted as the influence of "key nodes"—for example, how interpersonal relationships or environmental factors (such as help from a noble person) can change outcomes.
Emphasizes the dialectical relationship between "connection" and "barrier": fate is not static but dynamically interacts through specific nodes (connecting positions). This encourages us to pay attention to key turning points in life and respond to changes with flexibility.
Overall Meaning
This method is based on the Xunkongwang (旬空亡, empty and void periods) of the Four Pillars (year, month, day, hour): Yang stems are empty, Yin stems are void. Yang stems include Bing, Wu, Geng, and Ren; Yin stems include Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, and Gui. For example, take the year Ren Shen, month Ding Wei, day Wu Xu, and hour Jia Yin: the year pillar Ren Shen belongs to the Jia Zi cycle (empty and void periods Xu and Hai), so the Xu position is the first empty position; the month pillar Ding Wei belongs to the Jia Chen cycle (empty and void periods Yin and Mao), so the Mao position is the second void position; the day pillar Wu Xu belongs to the Jia Wu cycle (empty and void periods Chen and Si), so the Chen position is the third empty position; the hour pillar Jia Yin belongs to the Jia Yin cycle (empty and void periods Zi and Chou), so the Zi position is the fourth empty position. At the same time, the earthly branches of the Four Pillars are solid positions: the year branch Shen palace is the first solid position, the month branch Wei palace is the second solid position, the day branch Xu palace is the third solid position, and the hour branch Yin palace is the fourth solid position. 🌟 In fate analysis, if auspicious stars such as the Noble Person, Star of Prosperity, or Ruling Star fall on solid positions, it is auspicious; if malignant stars such as enemies, difficulties, or malignant luminaries fall on solid positions, it is inauspicious.
The distinction between "empty" (void) and "solid" (existing) positions through the Xunkongwang of the Four Pillars directly influences fate, with solid positions having a direct impact and empty positions weakening or nullifying effects.
This is similar to handling "null values" in modern data science: empty and void periods represent missing or invalid data, while solid positions represent valid data points. In modern fate analysis, Xunkong is often used in Bazi analysis, indicating that certain aspects (such as wealth or health) may be weakened or require additional attention. Users are encouraged to adopt an empirical attitude—empty and void periods are not absolute omens of misfortune but reminders to focus on the influence of solid positions.
The concept of solid and void originates from the Book of Changes' "mutual generation of being and non-being," reflecting the dynamic balance of the universe. Empty and void periods are not negative but opportunities for transformation—reminding us to accept uncertainty in life and create meaning through actions in solid positions.
