Overall Paraphrased Translation
This chapter systematically elaborates on the intrinsic five-element nature of the Twelve Palaces and the laws governing their transformations. It emphasizes the need for comprehensive judgment by integrating the Three Combinations (三合局), the Year Lord (岁君, flowing year stems and branches), and the Supporting Stars (辅弼星), avoiding rigid interpretations. Each palace possesses dual possibilities of primary and transformed attributes, which must be flexibly determined based on star combinations.
Zi Palace (子宫) 🌊
Its intrinsic nature is a water-dominated zone, but the influence of the Xu Constellation (属土, earth element) must also be considered. If the flowing year's sound is fire, the earth attribute is activated, and earth becomes the dominant element.
Chou Palace (丑宫) ⛰️
Although classified as an earth wall, it possesses dual earth and metal attributes due to the Si-You-Chou (巳酉丑) combination forming a metal trio. It is most unfavorable for the Sun (fire) to shine here, as fire overcomes metal and damages the trio.
Yin Palace (寅宫) 🌳
Intrinsically wood, but the Yin-Wu-Xu (寅午戌) combination forms a fire trio. If water stars (水象) appear, they enhance the wood attribute; if wood energy enters Wu or Xu, it transforms into a fire trio.
Mao Palace (卯宫) 🔥
Originally a fire wall, but the Hai-Mao-Wei (亥卯未) combination can form a wood trio. When water stars shine here, it shifts to a wood attribute, embodying the Yi Jing principle that the interplay of water and fire generates wood.
Chen Palace (辰宫) ⛰️
Possesses three potential attributes: metal, water, and earth:
Si Palace (巳宫) 🌊
Intrinsically a water wall, but the Si-You-Chou (巳酉丑) combination can form a metal trio (metal禄 in Shen). If earth stars are present, it firmly acts as metal; without earth stars and if the Year Lord is not earth, it maintains its water nature.
Wu and Wei Palaces (午未宫) ☀️🌙
Special palaces—revolving around the Sun and Moon, regardless of intrinsic elements:
Shen Palace (申宫) 🌊
Essentially water (metal generates water), but it also possesses a metal attribute due to Geng Metal's presence. Earth stars can reduce its strength; if the Year Lord is wood, it反而 becomes an official position (wood restricts earth to protect the trio).
You Palace (酉宫) ⚔️
A pure metal wall, most vulnerable to Mars (荧惑) and Rahu as Year Lords. However, if Rahu's palace contains earth stars (earth generates metal), it can turn misfortune into blessing.
Xu Palace (戌宫) 🔥
A fire tomb, intrinsically fire. Water stars usually bring disaster, but water in Zi or Chou (restricted positions)反而 signifies nobility. The Year Lord being earth is most auspicious; avoid excess earth in the four earth months (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei).
Hai Palace (亥宫) 🌳
A pure wood wall without transformations; even if Mars passes through, it remains wood. Because wood is born in Hai and thrives in Yin, the wood energy flows seamlessly between these two palaces, ensuring stability.
Life Palace
Limit Palace
This chapter serves as a guiding framework for astrological fate studies. Learners must repeatedly verify with actual life examples to grasp the subtleties of "transformations." Modern applications can involve analogical deductions based on professional attributes, industry elements, economic cycles, etc.
