Modern Vernacular Interpretation of Ditian Sui·Compliance and Defiance
In a fate configuration, the elemental forces exhibit differences between compliance and defiance. What truly cannot be defied is the momentum of elements that have already gathered formidable strength.
Key Points from Original Annotation:
The principle of rigidity and flexibility favors compliance over defiance. Like the torrential waters of the Kunlun Mountains🌊, they can only be channeled, not obstructed. If a certain element has become dominant (e.g., in-season and well-supported) or the fate configuration shows "authority vested in one" (a single heavenly stem dominating the entire chart) or "two hearts beating as one" (two forces forming an alliance), one must comply with its momentum.
Deepening Insights from Ren Tiejiao's Annotation:
The crux of compliance and defiance lies in seizing the moment without opposing the momentum. Special attention should be paid to:
- The intent of in-season and well-supported elements must be followed.
- Elemental combinations can be pure or turbid: turbidity concealing purity is the mark of nobility, while purity mixed with turbidity is the root of poverty.
- Transforming defiance into compliance is the foundation of prosperity, whereas shifting from compliance to defiance portends impoverishment.
Core Principle: Controlling the Seven Killings is inferior to leveraging strong momentum to neutralize them. The Killing Followers configuration is essentially aligning with powerful authority. Retaining the Killing can even welcome the Official Star. The momentum of Yin and Yang each holds its mysteries: Yang harbors vitality, while Yin conceals transformation. If the fate configuration shows "two hearts beating as one" (a strong alliance) or "authority vested in one" (an extremely strong Day Master ruling the entire chart), one must only channel its momentum for blessings—forcing control will invite disaster!
Original Text: Geng Chen, Geng Chen, Geng Shen, Geng Chen
Great Cycles: Xin Si → Ren Wu → Gui Wei → Jia Shen → Yi You → Bing Xu
Analysis: Four Geng Metal stems seated on prosperous bases🌰, with three Chen Earth branches generating Metal, forming an "authority vested in one" extreme rigidity configuration. In the Ren Wu and Gui Wei cycles, Water and Fire cannot harm the strong Metal, posing no issue. During the Jia Shen and Yi You cycles, Metal energy flows unimpeded, leading to a promotion to Brigade Commander (division-level). In the Bing cycle, Fire provokes the raging Metal, resulting in death on the battlefield.

Great Cycles: Gui Hai → Ren Xu → Xin You → Geng Shen → Ji Wei → Wu Wu
Analysis: Geng Metal born in the Zi month, where Water is strong, with the Shen, You, and Chen branches combining into a Metal formation. The Jia Wood stems, rootless, are abandoned, forming a "Metal-Water two hearts beating as one" momentum🌊⛰. From the Gui Hai to Geng Shen cycles, complying with the Metal-Water momentum ensures smooth progress in imperial examinations and official career. In the Ji Wei cycle, Earth defies the Water momentum, leading to family decline. In the Wu Wu cycle, Fire and Earth provoke the Water God, resulting in loss of both life and wealth.
Original Text: Ren Zi, Xin Hai, Yi Hai, Bing Zi
Great Cycles: Ren Zi → Gui Chou → Jia Yin → Yi Mao → Bing Chen → Ding Si
Analysis: The four pillars exhibit overwhelming Water energy🌊🌊 (three Zi and one Hai), with the Bing Fire stem floating weakly, utterly suppressed. The Jia Yin and Yi Mao cycles channel Water energy through Wood, bringing family prosperity. In the Bing cycle, Fire and Water clash, causing financial loss and bereavement. In the Ding Si cycle, Fire provokes the raging Water, leading to death in a fire.
| Configuration Feature | Dangerous Cycles | Actions to Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| All-Water🌊 | Fire-Earth cycles (Bing/Ding/Wei/Xu) | High-risk investments/expansion |
| All-Metal⛰ | Fire cycles (Si/Wu/Bing/Ding) | Fierce competition/risky decisions |
