The natural order encompasses fluctuations between cold and warm, driving the growth and development of all things 🌱. When humans adhere to this principle, they must avoid extremes and imbalances.
Original Annotation Analysis:
Ren's Supplement:
Cold and warm are the fundamental principles of all growth 🌍. It is overly rigid to assume that the northwest (Metal-Water) must always be cold or the southeast (Wood-Fire) must always be warm. In nature, ascent is inevitably paired with descent, and closure follows opening—this is the essence of Yin-Yang interaction.
Case Study 1:
This chart features cold Metal and frigid Water (Geng Metal Daymaster born in Zi month), with withered Wood and frozen Earth, appearing bleak ❄️. Fortunately, the time branch Yin Wood (a root of warmth 🔥) grounds the Wood-Fire in the year and month, achieving "extreme cold tempered by latent warmth." The distant clash of Yin Wood (not direct) activates Fire energy, symbolizing the rise of earthly energy 🌱. With favorable southeast luck periods, the individual excelled academically, rising to a governorship—demonstrating "prosperity through the meeting of cold and warmth."
Case Study 2:
Similar to the first case, this cold Metal-Water chart lacks the Yin Wood warm root 🔥, resulting in "extreme cold without warmth," making the absence of warmth preferable (to avoid depletion by false Fire). Early luck in Yi Hai (Water-cold phase) was smooth; Jia Xu (hidden Ding Fire) brought losses; after Ren Shen, fortunes improved; Xin Wei (Southern Fire phase) caused setbacks; in Geng Wu, a Yin year (Wood-Fire surge) marked the individual's passing—highlighting the perils of imbalance.
Case Study 3:
This chart blazes with Southern Fire (Bing Fire Daymaster in double Wu month), extreme warmth 🔥. A hint of Ren Water (cold ❄️) seems feeble but is rooted in the Chen reservoir, aided by the Chou year branch (damp Earth storing Water 🌊), forming "extreme warmth anchored by cold." The individual achieved scholarly honors and high office, though with some career fluctuations.
Case Study 4:
The branches form a pure Southern Fire configuration (Si-Wu-Wei), extreme warmth 🔥. The heavenly stems' Bing and Gui float rootless, representing "extreme warmth without cold roots," making the absence of cold advantageous. Early luck in Bing Chen relied on ancestral wealth; Yi Mao and Jia Yin boosted fortunes; Gui Chou (cold taking root) saw parental loss and financial decline; in Ren Zi, a fire disaster 🔥 led to ruin—underscoring the fragility of ungrounded cold.
The theory of cold and warm reveals that dynamic Yin-Yang balance is the cornerstone of all development ⚖️. Cold (contraction, calm) and warmth (expansion, vigor) must counterbalance each other; excessive bias risks systemic collapse, mirroring the inevitability of seasonal cycles in nature.
