An ancient verse says: When the Metal element encounters the zodiac signs of Pig (Hai), Rooster (You), Rabbit (Mao), or Snake (Si), and if it also faces unfavorable factors such as clashes, conflicts, breaks, or harms, it will lead to sighs of regret. Only when wealth and auspicious luck converge can it form a noble pattern. Additionally, a distinction must be made between those born during the day and those born at night to achieve the best outcome.
Old annotations explain: The Tianyi Noble Star, for example, refers to the appearance of Ox (Chou) or Goat (Wei) on Jia or Wu days, but the Day Noble Pattern specifically refers to four specific daily pillars: Ding-You, Ding-Hai, Gui-Si, and Gui-Mao. These days are most averse to clashes, conflicts, breaks, harms, as well as inauspicious influences like Kongwang (Empty Death) and Kuigang (Noble but Stern). If the major luck cycle enters a Triple Harmony (auspicious) phase, prosperity may follow. However, if the annual or cyclical luck brings clashes, breaks, or harms, the Noble Star will "become angry," potentially attracting calamities. Classics mention: Honoring nobility is a treasure. Those born during the day are suited to the Day Noble Pattern (e.g., Gui-Mao, Gui-Si), while those born at night are suited to the Night Noble Pattern (e.g., Ding-You, Ding-Hai). Only then can it be considered a true noble pattern.
The poem "Partridge in the Sky" describes:
Ding-Hai days without clashes, Gui-Mao stars shining bright,
Ding-You and Gui-Si days bring abundance and might.
When noble stars converge, official fortunes rise,
Wealth and longevity both maximize.
💰 Treasures fill the vaults, households overflow,
Reputation soars, careers steadily grow.
Upright and selfless, character fair and true,
Loyal and honest, like a balanced scale in view. ⚖️
Nan Duan's commentary: The Day Noble Pattern, such as the notion of "Jia-Wu with Ox-Goat" (referring to the Tianyi Noble Star), how can such logic hold? Although it is called the Tianyi Noble Star, and the Day Master prominently resides in the noble position, it might be considered a Day Noble Pattern for assessing fortune. However, the concept of nobility has multiple origins, and its naming was not originally based on rationality, much like the absurd notion of the "Fen-Chou day" being associated with harming children. Even if the Day Master is aligned with nobility, without the support of other stars such as Wealth, Official, or Seal, relying solely on nobility is highly superficial. Moreover, the various theories of nobility in Yuan Liu (possibly referring to Liuren or other systems) are established out of thin air, not rooted in reason—how can they be believed? The same applies to the Six-Yi Mouse Noble Pattern; it is undoubtedly fallacious. 🤔
The Day Noble Pattern is a special configuration in Bazi (Four Pillars of Destiny) metaphysics, based on the appearance of the Tianyi Noble Star in the Day Pillar (the stem-branch pair of the birth day). It suggests that individuals born on Ding-You, Ding-Hai, Gui-Si, or Gui-Mao days can attain wealth, an upright character, and longevity if they avoid unfavorable factors like clashes, conflicts, breaks, or harms and can converge with auspicious luck. However, this pattern is questioned for lacking a rational foundation and may merely be a conceptual construct in traditional metaphysics.
In modern society, the Day Noble Pattern reflects an ancient exploration of the laws of destiny, attempting to predict life trajectories through astrological and stem-branch combinations. From a scientific perspective, however, this pattern is more of a cultural symbol or psychological suggestion rather than an objective law. The concept of the Tianyi Noble Star may originate from ancient observations of "noble assistance" in social contexts, but mechanizing it into specific daily pillars lacks empirical support. Contemporary metaphysical studies emphasize holistic factors, such as the overall balance of the Bazi and the interplay of the Ten Gods, rather than relying solely on isolated patterns. 🌍 Integrating modern psychology, this pattern can be understood as a positive暗示 for personal traits (e.g., integrity, loyalty) but should not serve as a basis for decision-making.
In modern life, the concept of the Day Noble Pattern can serve as a tool for self-reflection:
The Day Noble Pattern sparks deep contemplation on destiny and free will: The ancients sought a sense of order through astrology, reflecting humanity's response to uncertainty. However, the skepticism surrounding this pattern (as seen in Nan Duan's commentary) reminds us that metaphysics should not become a constraint but a medium for inspiring self-awareness. In modern times, we should emphasize "human determination overcomes heaven"—shaping life through effort and rational choices rather than relying on fatalism. 🌱 This aligns with the "change" philosophy in Yijing studies: All things flow, and whether something is noble depends on dynamic balance rather than fixed labels.
