The Decennial Fortune (Da Yun) is calculated starting from the Monthly Pillar (Yue Zhu) 🌱. This is like predicting the future of an entire tree by observing its sapling. Through the Useful God (Yong Shen) of the Monthly Pillar, one can determine a person's structural pattern (Ge Ju), hence the term "transition of fortune" (Jiao Yun). This process is analogous to grafting a tree, and when discussing destiny, the transformation of root, seedling, flower, and fruit is emphasized, fitting this metaphor perfectly and aptly.
For example, if the Day Stem (Ri Gan) is Jia or Yi Wood 🌳, encountering a Yin or Mao Wood Fortune is called "stirring the Rob Wealth and Losing Wealth," which may lead to overcoming the father, overcoming the wife, financial loss, or disputes and conflicts. If encountering a Bing, Ding, Si, or Wu Fire Fortune 🔥, it generally brings auspicious celebrations and wealth growth. If encountering a Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei Earth Fortune or a Wu or Ji Earth Wealth Fortune ⛰, it often results in gaining both fame and fortune, with everything proceeding smoothly.
However, the above are only basic rules. In practical application, one must combine the structural pattern and the favorable and unfavorable elements (Xi Ji) of the individual's Eight Characters (Ba Zi) to make inferences, which will then prove remarkably accurate. The Decennial Fortune should not clash with the Year Pillar (Tai Sui, the Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch of the current year): if the Year Pillar clashes with the Decennial Fortune, it may instead bring good fortune; but if the Decennial Fortune clashes with the Year Pillar, it is highly unfavorable; when the Year Pillar and the Decennial Fortune mutually generate each other, it is most auspicious. Careful deliberation is required, and it will invariably prove accurate.
The Decennial Fortune is a ten-year cycle of fortune in Eight Characters (Ba Zi) destiny analysis, calculated based on the Monthly Pillar. It resembles the growth process of a tree, from root and seedling to fruit, reflecting the developmental trajectory of destiny. The core lies in the balance of the Five Elements' mutual generation and overcoming (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) and the favorable and unfavorable elements of the structural pattern (Ge Ju), emphasizing the manifestation of auspicious and inauspicious outcomes amid dynamic changes.
In modern society, the Decennial Fortune can be analogized to the "fortune curve" of different life stages. For example:
The key is to analyze it in combination with the individual's Eight Characters pattern (such as the Useful God), rather than applying it mechanically. Modern individuals can use it as a tool for self-reflection to identify strengths and challenges, rather than as fatalism.
The theory of the Decennial Fortune reflects the ancient Chinese philosophy of "harmony between heaven and humanity," emphasizing the interaction between time (fortune) and space (structural pattern). It is not deterministic but suggests possibilities, encouraging people to exert subjective initiative amid the dynamics of "destiny" (Ming) and "fortune" (Yun). From a modern perspective, this is similar to systems thinking: viewing life as a complex system that requires balancing internal factors (structural pattern) and external factors (Decennial Fortune) to achieve harmony.
