Overall Paraphrased Meaning
The Six Harms refer to the mutually detrimental relationships between the Earthly Branches, comprising six pairs: Zi-Wei, Chou-Wu, Yin-Si, Mao-Chen, Shen-Hai, and You-Xu. The causes and effects of each pair differ:
The Six Harms generally indicate obstruction, loneliness, promiscuity, and不利 for livestock and farmland wealth 🌾, as well as weak familial bonds. Specific effects depend on the state of growth, prosperity, decay, or extinction:
The Six Harms act as官星剥蚀之杀 🚫. Even in pure and noble configurations, encountering them prevents true success. If combined with broken禄, punishment, or clash, it leads to demotion or loss. Those with Six Harms in their chart may face disability and suffering in old age, especially with Yang Blade ⛰. Avoid stems and branches harming the day or hour pillar, as this is the most critical, termed "Great Harm"; the body and life palaces are secondary. Determine the harm's location by calculating the life palace. When activated by annual or luck cycles, lifelong happiness is diminished.
The Six Harms arise from the interaction of Yin-Yang energies with the Six合, forgetting harmony between day and night, leading to折伤. For example, double occurrence of Shen-Hai represents high Yang 🌞 energy in the northwest, symbolizing mountain残 damage; Yin-Si represents sinking Yin 🌙 energy in the southeast, symbolizing bodily废弃.
Core Concept 💡
The Six Harms stem from五行 conflicts and envy-driven competition among Earthly Branches, reflecting interpersonal or environmental clashes and obstructions. The essence is "harming while forgetting harmony," emphasizing the loneliness, competition, and disasters resulting from broken balance. Ancient texts quantify the impact through五行 interactions (e.g., strong earth harming water, fire克制 metal) and configurations (noble/lowly, growth/decay/extinction).
Modern Interpretation 🌟
Practical Value ⚡
Philosophical Reflection 🤔
The Six Harms reveal "tension within harmony"—the Yin-Yang Six合 represent harmony, but excessive competition (harm) leads to loneliness. This reflects the Daoist idea of "extremes leading to reversal": pursuing advantage (临官 expertise) may cause harm. Modernly, it implies that progress requires balance, avoiding zero-sum games.
