Familiarity with this content enables accurate judgment of the fortune or misfortune of the year, without error. The blessings and calamities of the year must be explored based on the fortunes and misfortunes of one's birth chart (at the time of birth), with the Life Palace as the benchmark for determining auspicious or inauspicious outcomes. For example, if two individuals enter the same planetary phase or experience the same transiting stars, yet their outcomes differ, why is this? One must first examine the planetary phases of the body and life, and whether the birth chart has auspicious or inauspicious stars presiding over it, to draw a conclusion. For instance, if the Life Palace is in the sign of Zi, and the planetary phase moves to the sign of Yin, and if the birth chart has malefic stars presiding over the major phase, while transiting malefic stars also arrive, the severe outcome may be death, while the milder outcome may be illness. If there are stars like the Heavenly and Earthly Official Talismans, and they involve phases related to career, property, or wealth, then legal disputes or penalties may occur, with severity judged similarly.
If stars like the Heavenly Official Talisman, Gate of Mourning, or White Tiger preside over the Life Palace phase, there may be mourning attire or funeral matters. If the birth chart lacks malefic stars, but transiting malefic stars reach the Life Palace phase, misfortunes may still occur; or if the birth chart has benefic stars providing protection, the outcome may be favorable. Other scenarios are analogous and must not be generalized. The fortunes and misfortunes of the birth chart influence one's entire life.
Mars, Rahu, Ketu, and Moon's Node (Juno) are considered malefic stars (🔥 Mars, 🌑 Rahu, ⚫ Ketu, 🌙 Juno), while Jupiter, Spirit, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn are considered benefic stars (🌳 Jupiter, 💨 Spirit, ⚪ Venus, 🌊 Mercury, ⛰ Saturn). For example, if the Life Palace is in Zi, Jupiter and Spirit are malefic stars, while Mars and Rahu are benefic stars; if Mars and Rahu illuminate the Life Palace phase, it may not be inauspicious but rather beneficial, bringing success. Encountering stars like the Red鸾 and Heavenly Joy brings joyous events, but encountering stars like the Blade, Empty Death, Death and Plunder, or the Grand Duke may not bring blessings. If transiting malefic stars like Juno arrive, and Mars and Rahu also arrive, while other stars antagonize the malefic nature of Mars and Rahu, blessings cannot be bestowed. Another example: if Jupiter and Spirit, as transiting malefic stars, reach the Life Palace phase or oppose it, it will inevitably cause unrest. One must also examine whether the ruling stars of the birth chart are in a favorable position and where the transiting planetary phase is located. If the phase reaches a difficult degree and the malefic stars of the birth chart are strong, it indicates severe danger; if the phase reaches a benefic degree and the malefic stars of the birth chart are weak, the arrival of transiting malefic stars will bring severe misfortune. Detailed distinctions must be made for events like illness, lawsuits, or mourning attire.
Encountering the Year Breaker, Grand Duke, Death and Plunder, or Heavenly Official Talisman will inevitably lead to lawsuits; transiting stars like the Gate of Mourning, White Tiger, Heavenly Wail, and Visiting Funeral indicate light mourning attire or severe bereavement of loved ones. Stars like the Wandering Star, Sickness Talisman, Death Talisman, Disheveled Head, and Bloody Blade indicate illness, ranging from mild sickness to severe death, determined based on the birth chart's planetary phase and whether there are overlapping influences. Malefic stars presiding over the Life Palace bring light misfortune; presiding over the phase palace brings severe misfortune, with the same logic applying to auspicious and inauspicious outcomes. The source of concern is the Grand Duke, and the source of joy is also the Grand Duke. If the Grand Duke presides over the Life Palace phase, the year may be peaceful and joyous; but if the Grand Duke presides over the Life Palace phase, the year may be filled with repeated disasters or multiple mourning events. If benefic stars fill the phase, it is auspicious; if malefic stars fill it, it is inauspicious. Further judgment must be made based on the mutual generation and restraint of the Five Elements, the harmony or conflict with the Life Palace phase, and whether the opposition is direct or indirect: direct opposition will inevitably bring misfortune, while indirect opposition is harmless. Additionally, the auspicious or inauspicious nature of the birth chart's stars in opposition must be considered, starting from the Grand Duke: first the Grand Duke, second the Sun, third the Gate of Mourning, fourth the Moon, fifth the Official Talisman, sixth the Death Talisman, seventh the Year Breaker, eighth the Dragon Virtue, ninth the White Tiger, tenth the Rolled Tongue, eleventh the Visiting Funeral, and twelfth the Sickness Talisman. The fortune or misfortune is determined based on the location of the Life Palace or the palace where the Moon is located, and the auspicious or inauspicious nature of the transiting stars. Mars and Rahu first appear, Ketu and Juno last appear, and Jupiter and Spirit appear simultaneously, all indicating events that have not yet occurred. The judgment is made based on the Life Palace's position relative to the Grand Duke's deities and spirits. Hence, it is said: the Grand Duke is the master of all evils; entering the Life Palace may not necessarily be inauspicious, but if it encounters a conflicted position, it will inevitably bring punishment to the birth chart.
This illustrates the Grand Duke as the unifying force of all deities. The Grand Duke is like the emperor of the year: in the year of Zi, it resides in Zi; in the year of Chou, it resides in Chou; in the year of Yin, it resides in Yin; in the year of Mao, it resides in Mao; in the year of Chen, it resides in Chen; in the year of Si, it resides in Si; in the year of Wu, it resides in Wu; in the year of Wei, it resides in Wei; in the year of Shen, it resides in Shen; in the year of You, it resides in You; in the year of Xu, it resides in Xu; in the year of Hai, it resides in Hai. All other evils follow it in sequence, cycling repeatedly to distribute auspicious and inauspicious outcomes.
The key to judging the fortune or misfortune of the year lies in the configuration of stars in the birth chart (at the time of birth) and their interaction with the transiting stars (of the current year). The Life Palace is the reference point, and the presence, opposition, or conjunction of stars such as malefic stars (Mars, Rahu, Ketu, Juno) and benefic stars (Jupiter, Spirit, Venus, Mercury, Saturn) determines the outcomes. The Grand Duke, as the ruler of the year, governs all evils, and its auspicious or inauspicious nature depends on its harmony or conflict with the Life Palace phase.
In a modern context, this is similar to personal annual fortune analysis, based on the interaction between one's birth chart (natal chart) and the celestial phenomena of the year (transits). For example:
This reflects the philosophy of cosmic resonance: the interconnection between individuals and cosmic cycles. It emphasizes causality and cycles—the birth chart sets the foundation, while transits trigger events. From a modern perspective, it encourages self-awareness: how external events (transits) resonate with one's internal state (birth chart), rather than passively accepting fate. It提示 balance and adaptation: auspicious and inauspicious outcomes are not absolute but depend on how one responds to changes.
