Fate analysis must first focus on the Day Master 🌞 (the heavenly stem of the birth day), followed by observing the Monthly Order 📅 (the guiding principle, i.e., the birth month) in sequence. Within the Four Pillars and Eight Characters, emphasis is placed on the Wealth Star 💰 and the Official Star 🏛️: if the body is strong (Day Master is robust) and the wealth and official stars are flourishing, it often indicates riches, honor, and prosperity. If the body is strong but the wealth and official stars are damaged, life may be marked by hardship, potentially leading to destitution or even begging.
When both the wealth and official stars are strong and the Day Master is also robust, an official career will undoubtedly thrive, adorned with purple robes and golden belts. If the wealth and official stars are strong but the Day Master is weak, the most auspicious scenario is when the major cycle (Da Yun) reaches a phase where the body is strong. When the Day Master is strong but the wealth and official stars are weak, entering a wealth or official cycle will bring both fame and fortune. If the Day Master sits on wealth and official stars (i.e., the earthly branch of the day pillar) and is further supported by the Monthly Order, attaining nobility is not difficult. In general, the key to wealth and honor lies in the proper configuration of wealth and official stars, enabling early ascension to high positions.
When the body is strong but lacks support (the Five Elements are excessively strong without restraint), it may lead to relocating from ancestral homes or settling in foreign lands, even resulting in financial losses, harm to the spouse, estrangement from maternal relatives, or being adopted into another family. If the body is strong and the Seal Star is also strong, wealth will be scattered and unaccumulated; money may be easily spent or used to purchase property, creating an outwardly prosperous appearance but inner emptiness. The Official Star should be exposed, as exposure signifies nobility and purity; the Wealth Star should be hidden, as concealment leads to abundance. When the Killing Star is hidden and the Official Star is exposed, evil is concealed while goodness is highlighted, and such a configuration can bring fame and recognition in one's hometown.
If the Official and Killing Stars are overly strong but the body is even stronger, encountering restraint can lead to becoming virtuous and honorable. When the Killing and Official Stars encircle the Seal Star, the nobility is significant, and one's prestige will spread far and wide. Born in summer (Nine Summers 🔥), excessive fire requires water to achieve balance; when water and fire are in harmony, both fame and fortune will flourish. Born in winter (Three Winters ❄️), water is cold and metal is frigid; encountering fire will alleviate hardship. When fire is blazing without water, entering a water cycle is favorable; when water is overwhelming without fire, entering a fire cycle is also auspicious. In the fiery south, a northern water cycle is beneficial; in the cold northern water, a southern fire cycle is advantageous. In the wood-abundant east, a western metal cycle is suitable; in the metal-strong west, an eastern wood cycle is favorable. When the Five Elements are in harmony, one's prestige will shake the heavens.
Repeated appearances of the Three Mounds and Five Tombs (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei) indicate separation from flesh and blood, insufficient parental support, estrangement among siblings, distant relatives, and changes in spouses. Breaking through the Monthly Order often harms parents, leading to either punishment or separation. If the body sits on the Companion Star or the Traveling Horse, siblings will lead wandering and carefree lives; multiple Traveling Horses in the Four Pillars indicate a life of toil and movement, with a restless mind—active in joy but sorrowful in stillness.
The Wealth Star entering the treasury indicates wealth accumulation, but the spouse may be miserly, hoarding wealth without generosity; if the Wealth Star sits on the Traveling Horse, the spouse will be virtuous and joyful everywhere. Multiple Official and Killing Stars without a Wealth Star mean the spouse can assist internally but harmony is lacking, with disrespect toward in-laws and usurpation of the husband's authority. If the Official Star encounters growth and flourishes, and further enjoys longevity in the hour pillar, offspring will be intelligent, outstanding, and noble.
A strong Companion Star and Hurting Officer indicate harm to the spouse and children, with adopted children being unfilial; adoption is not advisable. The Seven Killings with the Owl God mean the spouse may experience miscarriages or stillbirths, with blood-related imbalances leading to illness, depending on the cycle. For men, multiple Owl Gods and a weak body often lead to chronic illness; for women, the Owl God and Eating God are inauspicious, indicating difficult childbirth and critical illness. For women, strong Official and Wealth Stars attract worthy husbands and good children; if both are damaged, it may lead to widowhood and loss of children. A strong Seal Star and even stronger body indicate a life of punishment, conflict, and poverty; prominent Official and Wealth Stars surpass ordinary nobility with support.
Conflicts arise from the clash of water and fire, or may manifest as dimness or eye problems. For women, a strong Hurting Officer leads to constant scolding of the husband, ultimately resulting in punishment and loneliness. For example, in the八字乙巳、戊辰、庚申、辛未, if the Day Stem carries this, it signifies the wife of a powerful and noble person, indicating a virtuous and noble spouse, depending on the Four Pillars configuration. Similarly, those born on丁丑、戊寅、己卯encounter similar circumstances as described. Days such as辛巳、壬午、甲申、乙酉, where the day pillar sits on wealth and official stars, often bring significant wealth and honor.
Days like丁亥、戊子、庚寅indicate a fate of considerable weight;辛卯、丙申、丁酉have wealth and official stars hidden internally but fame revealed externally;己亥、甲申meeting庚戌have seals, wealth, and official stars hidden within; encountering丙辰、壬戌leads to extraordinary seals across the four seasons.甲子、丙寅、丁卯、己巳、壬辰、癸巳are similar, indicating fleeting fame and fortune and a wandering life.乙亥、庚申、己巳lack wealth and official stars, with illusory spouses and children, and a life of movement across directions.甲午、戊戌、庚子indicate women harming husbands and men harming children;乙巳、丙午、丁未with multiple壬子lead to loneliness and poverty;甲寅、己卯、戊午with similar stems and branches indicate insufficient offspring;己未、庚申、癸亥with a flourishing Monthly Order become sources of disaster.
If the Monthly Order contains wealth, official, and seal stars entirely, and harmonizes with the hour pillar, blessings will be abundant; if the stems and branches are of the same category and the body is strong, it may harm children, punish the spouse, and break ancestral wealth. The strength of the Four Pillars must be differentiated, and one should not rigidly adhere to a single Yin-Yang principle. This is the subtle secret of the Five Elements, passed only to the wise.
The Monthly Order 📅 serves as the guiding principle, governing destiny. A strong body without support, like the Five Elements flourishing without restraint, often leads to a life as a monk or Taoist. Nine Summers refers to the three months of summer, and Three Winters refers to the three months of winter. The Traveling Horse indicates travel in all directions; without restraint, it leads to wandering in foreign lands. Yin, Shen, Si, and Hai are the four directions of the horse. The Wealth Star is the horse, discussing wealth, the spouse, and the horse in connection. The Owl God is the partial seal, akin to the unkind bird of the east that can devour its mother; sitting on the Hurting Officer means the Day Master below is violated.
The essence of八字命理 (Eight Characters Fate Analysis) lies in Five Elements balance and generation and restraint. By analyzing the Day Master, wealth and official stars, body strength, and other factors, it reveals personal destiny trends, emphasizing the importance of Yin-Yang harmony and Five Elements interaction. The Monthly Order (guiding principle) serves as the hub of destiny, governing the overall situation, while the configuration of wealth and official stars determines the level of wealth and nobility.
In modern society, the principles of八字can be analogized to personal resource management and environmental adaptation:
八字theory is deeply rooted in the Yin-Yang Five Elements view of ancient Chinese philosophy, reflecting the thought of天人合一 (harmony between humanity and nature):
