Overall Translation
The Combined Lu Pattern is a special configuration in Eight Characters (Bazi) astrology, primarily applicable to individuals born on the six Wu days (Wu Yin, Wu Chen, Wu Wu, Wu Shen, Wu Xu, Wu Zi) during the Geng Shen hour. If the four pillars lack interference from the Officer Star (官星) or the Seal Star (印星), this pattern is established. The principle is that the Geng Metal (庚金) in the hour pillar can "combine" to draw out Yi Wood (乙木), which is the rightful Officer (正官) of Wu Earth (戊土), creating a hidden aura of official nobility 🌱. However, this pattern is highly sensitive: it fears Jia Wood (甲木) overcoming Wu Earth (七杀攻身), Bing Fire (丙火) overcoming Geng Metal (disrupting the combining mechanism), Yin Wood (寅木) clashing with Shen Metal (申金) (shaking the foundation), and the appearance of Mao Wood (卯木) (as the explicit Officer negates the need for "hidden combination"). Ancient texts refer to this pattern as "the land of prosperous Devouring Spirit (食神)," but if characters like Jia, Bing, Mao, or Yin appear in the year or month pillars, it becomes "encountered yet not encountered"—seemingly a pattern but actually broken, and must be viewed as ordinary. As long as the characters Geng Shen remain unharmed, this pattern often proves effective.
Another pattern, the "Arch Nobility Pattern (拱贵格)," specifically refers to individuals with Jia Yin (甲寅) as the Day Master encountering Jia Zi (甲子) hour. This is because Zi (子) and Yin (寅) "arch" to form Chou (丑) (the Heavenly Noble Person, 天乙贵人) between them, and Chou contains Xin Metal (辛金), the rightful Officer of Jia (甲) 🤴. This pattern dislikes Geng Metal (庚金) breaking Jia, Shen Metal (申金) clashing with Yin, Wu Fire (午火) clashing with Zi, and also dislikes characters like Geng, Xin, Shen, You, Ji, and Chou directly filling or breaking the Chou treasury. This pattern has a relatively high degree of efficacy but requires the Eight Characters to have balanced strength; being too strong or too weak prevents the pattern from forming.
Ge Jie supplement: This pattern is better if born in autumn or winter ❄️.
Xi Ji Pian emphasizes: The Geng Shen hour on a Wu day is originally a prosperous land for the Devouring Spirit, but if Jia, Bing, Mao, or Yin are seen in the year or month, the pattern is broken.
Additional note: This pattern can also be called the "Combined Spirit Pattern (合神格)," and the six Gui days (癸日) encountering Geng Shen hour follow a similar principle (Geng combines with the Wu Earth hidden in Si to act as the Officer Star for Gui), with identical preferences and taboos.
Ancient verse summary:
Wu day, Shen hour, the Devouring Spirit is miraculous;
Those born in autumn and winter enjoy thick blessings;
If Bing, Jia, Mao, or Yin appear,
The pattern is broken, leading to loneliness and poverty 📉.
