Chapter 43 of 48
子平真诠评注
Overall Meaning Translation
Yang Blade is a powerful factor that seizes the Direct Wealth, equivalent to the Seven Killings of Direct Wealth. It is located one position before the Lu (Prosperity) position and is only possessed by Yang stems (甲, 丙, 戊, 庚, 壬), hence the name Yang Blade. It is called "Blade" instead of "Robbery" because its seizing power is extremely fierce 🌪. Yang Blade needs to be subdued, and both the Direct Officer and Seven Killings can serve this purpose. If combined with the Wealth Star and the Seal Star, the configuration becomes particularly noble ✨. The Direct Officer configuration paired with Wealth and Seal is already excellent, but wouldn't the Seven Killings paired with Wealth and Seal be even more powerful? In fact, other configurations fear the Seven Killings harming the body, so they prefer subduing and avoid Wealth and Seal. However, the Yang Blade configuration uses the Seven Killings to subdue the Blade and does not fear harm to the body, thus it instead prefers the combination of Wealth and Seal and dislikes excessive subduing.

Modern Interpretation of Original Text 2-3
In the Yang Blade configuration using the Direct Officer, even if the Yang Blade is revealed, it is not feared. However, when using the Seven Killings to subdue the Blade, if the Yang Blade is revealed, it is difficult to succeed. This is because the Direct Officer can directly subdue the Blade, so its appearance is not an issue. In contrast, the Yang Blade will combine with the Seven Killings, causing them to lose their Blade-subduing function. For example, if one is born in the month of Wu (午) under the Bing (丙) stem 🌞, and the Ren (壬) water Seven Killings are revealed to subdue the Blade, but if the Ding (丁) fire Yang Blade is also revealed, the Ding and Ren will combine, causing the Seven Killings to forget their subduing duty due to the combination, rendering them ineffective in subduing the Blade.
The level of the configuration where the Officer or Killings subdue the Blade depends on:

Modern Interpretation of Original Text 4-6
In cases where the Yang Blade configuration includes the Injury or Eating Star and is noble, it may be due to the protection of the Seal Star, the need for the Injury or Eating Star to reduce excessively heavy Killings, or the need to clarify mixed Officer and Killings. For example, in the case of Mu Tongzhi: 甲午, 癸酉, 庚寅, 戊寅, the Injury Officer Gui (癸) water intends to harm the Officer Star but is combined and held by the Wu (戊) earth Seal Star, which is an example of Seal Star protection.

For those born in the month of Wu (午) under the Bing (丙) stem, if the Ji (己) earth in the configuration can overcome water, it is advisable to carry Wealth and wear Seal. For those born in the month of Wu (午) under the Wu (戊) stem 🔥, if the Bing (丙) fire is revealed on the stem and the fire combination is formed in the branches, the Blade is transformed into a Seal. If the Officer or Killings are revealed, the Blade is removed, and the Seal remains, making the configuration clearer. If Wealth and Killings are both revealed, it violates the taboo of removing the Seal and preserving the Killings, resulting in neither wealth nor nobility.
Using Wealth in the Yang Blade configuration is generally not favored. However, if the Wealth is deeply rooted and the Injury or Eating Star is used to transform the Blade into generating Wealth, although it may not achieve nobility like the Jian Lu (建禄) or Yue Jie (月劫) configurations, it can still lead to wealth 💰. Otherwise, the Blade and Wealth conflict, making it difficult to form a successful configuration.

Important Notes
The core of the Yang Blade configuration lies in balance: if the Blade is too strong, it needs subduing; if subduing is excessive, it needs support. In modern application, the emphasis is on understanding its philosophical symbolism of "excess and restraint" rather than simply judging luck. A properly configured Yang Blade configuration often excels in highly competitive modern societies, but attention must be paid to character cultivation to avoid excessive fierceness.
