In all divinations concerning the pursuit of wealth, the Wealth Spouse (Qi Cai Yao) serves as the core indicator. However, because the nature of what is sought differs, other lines must also be considered: if one seeks audience with the powerful (visiting dignitaries to seek advancement), the Officer Ghost (Guan Gui Yao) becomes key—both the Wealth line and the Officer line must not be weak or ineffective; if one engages in traveling trade, the worst omen is the Officer Ghost line activating or being strong and叠加, for the Officer Ghost governs calamity, disputes, and litigation.
In traveling trade, if the Wealth line is strong, even if the Ghost moves—provided it is not accompanied by the Suzaku, Xuanwu, Tengshe, or Baihu spirits—there is still profit to be had. But if the Wife Wealth line encounters void (空) or monthly break (破), then one must expect lawsuits, thieves, disturbances, disasters, and loss of wealth.
Hoarding goods requires examining the waxing and waning of the season for disposal; the same principle applies to cultivation and planting. For goods sold in spring, the Wood element should support the Wealth line and be strong. For goods sold in winter, the Fire line is忌 as the indicator weakened. One must examine the time of divination: if the Wealth spirit has support and no damage, and later encounters a旺 season, substantial profit accrues. If at the time of divination it was already broken or scattered with no rescue, then even if a favorable season later arrives, the profit will be thin. Wealth with roots, when its season arrives, blossoms fragrant; wealth without roots, even in its season, remains mediocre. When the place of disposal is固定, examine the season; when the time of disposal is不定, judge according to the divination.
Questions concerning shops and stores favor long-term operations; questions concerning entrusted capital and consigned goods favor consistency from start to finish. Hence, the Triple Clash (三冲) means affairs begin but never conclude; the Response line breaking or scattering means initial loyalty later turns lax; the Response line void or绝 means initial intimacy later turns to distance; the Response line overcoming the Self means the other harbors treacherous intentions and will embezzle the capital. If any of these four conditions exist, even if the Wealth line faces no克制 or breakage, still one must not proceed. In all divinations of enterprise where the Wealth spirit is strong and no partner is involved, even if the Triple Clash appears, profit may yet be had shortly; only in entrusted-consignment matters does the Clash foretell failure—though Wealth be strong, one must not proceed.
When pursuing profit at the official bureau, one must probe the officer's moods; when seeking wealth through gambling or games, one must carefully examine whether the Response line克s or generates. The Officer Ghost void or broken implies the official lacks authority; if he then克s the Self line, this points to punishment—thus Wealth may be strong yet inauspicious. The Response line克ing the Self implies the other party overcomes me—though Wealth be strong, one will first win then lose.
Borrowing and lending shun the Response line being void, signifying empty promises unfulfilled. Searching for lost goods shuns the Self line being void, signifying difficulty in finding. Hunting likewise. Buying goods when the Self is void indicates difficulty concluding the purchase despite Wealth present in the hexagram.
Again, observe the sought object and divide the indicator accordingly: for winged creatures and beasts, use not Wealth but the Descendant line (子孙); for clothing, boats, and carts, use not Wealth but the Parent line (父母).
Group credit-circle matters are like worldly undertakings: the Lord hexagram clashing brings no gathering; Self and Response void means no meeting; Wealth and Officer陷 means no completion. Acting as mediator likewise. If the divination shows the gathering forming, Wealth attending the day or month Stems grants it. If it shows completion, then the Triple Clash, the Response breaking, or the Response克ing the Self signify no good outcome. Example: You month, Ding-You day, divining for a庚子 day credit gathering, obtaining Water on Earth Bi (比), the gathering was indeed obtained. Another example: Yin month, Yi-Mao day, divining when the gathering will be obtained, encountering Thunder-Fire Feng transforming to Li, later obtained in the Wu month—this proved the validation of Wealth as the month builder.
The profit of shaman-healers rests on reputation, and the Officer Ghost is the chief regulator. The profit of actors, singers, and courtesans rests on stirring hearts, and likewise the Officer Ghost is paramount. Skilled artisans depend on congenial relationships, shunning the Response克ing the Self. Monks and priests rely on willing donors, disliking the Response being void.
When hosting travelers on the road, if the other is void, who then comes? When disposing of property to seek alliance, if the Response is void, with whom does one partner? If the alliance is targeted, judge as in worldly undertakings.
If one ventures to seek wealth through risky adventures—this is not a proper livelihood; speak not first of its gains but first clarify its harms. Moving and harming alongside the tomb brings great harm; Response克ing Self means bandits along the road; Officer克ing Self means snares on the journey; the Ghost moving is like a tiger crouched on the path. Why venture forth? With Xuanwu added, banditry; with Suzaku, strife; with Gouchen, obstruction by men; with Tengshe, wind and wave terrors; with Baihu, illness and calamity—only Qinglong can transform the ominous to auspicious. That which is not one's proper due brings more misfortune than fortune and often total ruin of person and estate. Therefore the admonition.
For debt collection, the Response克ing the Self indicates the debtor as one who betrays trust. For competitive claims, the Brother line moving underscores predatory seizures. The departing favor motion; the staying favor stillness. Developing the dormant favors its emergence; manufacturing and crafting favors transformation with proper foundation. Developing the dormant covers matters like mining, panning, and treasure hunting. Manufacturing covers carpenters, masons, needlework, and weaving. With Wealth到了 the transforming line, and encountering the day or month builders, this is auspicious.
Wealth encountering combination (合) means a propitious meeting; Wealth encountering clash (冲) means it can be activated. Goods purchased宜 in their waning to buy cheaply; goods sold宜 in their旺 to fetch price. Wealth生旺 suggests高价, Wealth衰病 suggests低价. This speaks of price fluctuations—both for receiving and dispatching goods.
Wealth is绝—when generated it can be disposed off. Wealth is void—when filled it can be gained. Wealth is broken—when forted and combined it can be restored. Wealth is absent—when its time arrives it can be obtained. Wealth is in旺—存储 in the墓 storehouse. Wealth is衰—upon旺 it can grow long. Hand in-chase-progress (进神) deepens daily; back-to-regression (退神) diminishes daily. Thick profit: Wealth generated-transforms. Thin profit: the Wife line被克. This describes the methods of generation, restraint, and remedy for the Wealth line.
Wandering-soul hexagram (游魂卦) with strong Wealth favors travel. Returning-soul hexagram (归魂卦) with weak Wealth favors staying. The Six Clash favors re-strategizing以获得 gains. The Six Combination favors guarding with patience to yield interest. Wealth sitting in the Self line answers local pursuit. Wealth dwelling in the Response line speaks of sale abroad. Manifested in the inner-vicinity line, profitability mid-course.
Wealth weak in the inner trigram: buy close to home. Wealth dying-out in the outer trigram: place holdings far afield. Weak yet to grow: price first coils then extends. Strong yet to decline: the object goes first as metal-or-jade, later as dirt or stone. The hexagram without Wealth when Wealth moreover wanes: price is low—cannot buy. The hexagram without Wealth yet Wealth strong: price is lofty—cannot buy. Only when Wealth appears and wanes may the buyer fulfil this desire; only stack-angled strength yields easy sale.
What direction for dispatching goods is auspicious? Where the Wealth is generated. Dou-Trigger solitary asserts the palace: visible-repeated asserts the bough. What direction for acquiring goods? Where the Self is generated to act, that's all.
Asking which goods are good? There is no fixed method; one categories-and-inquires. Wealth strong, take the bough of the Wife-Wealth; Wealth 病, take the bough of the Descendant line, and examine the Five Elements and Six-Spirits associations. To what is similar-Kin Metal: jade-stone likeness; Water: fish-poll-salt; Fire: pottery-casting objects; Wood: fruits-of the-humdred; Earth: grains-of-the-five. Qinglong wood profit: festive uses; Baihu metal profit: sacrifices-knells; Xuanwu water profit: wine-delicacies; Suzaku fire profit: market-trading posts; Tengshe earth profit: comings-goings; Gouchen personnel affairs: farmland service. Purposeful search never from sole speculation.
Now the Descendant generates my Wealth—glad for its had-power, but also at intervals glad-wondering for its shortage. The Officer-Ghost drains my Wealth—good its placidness, unwelcome its oscillations. The Brother overcomes my Wealth—welcome its repose, not its agitation. The Parent works toil—good its suppression, not its flaunt. All that augments Wealth should enjoy act; all that impairs Wealth should remain lifeless.
A saying: obtaining the Cui hexagram in business means set-backs—this should admonish the querent. (Master Jing's line: Cui lacks augmentation. Hence in seeking wealth, market circuit-trade especially着忌.)
