Chapter 101 of 102
神峰通考
Overall Meaning Translation
All things originate from the same primordial energy🌬, breaking through severe cold, and each finds its place by embracing the clear and turbid energies. True immortals regard the Earthly Branches as the earth and the Heavenly Stems as the sky. The Heavenly Stems represent heaven, coexisting with the earth; the Earthly Branches represent earth, connected to the sky. The twelve palaces each occupy their positions, and the three cycles (heaven, earth, and human) each follow their order. The Five Elements are endowed from beyond the nine heavens, and the Eight Trigrams are deduced from ancient times.
Destiny relies on the three cycles (year, month, day) and is interconnected through a single energy. The month is derived from the year, and the hour is derived from the day. A prosperous hour pillar brings wealth and honor, while a weak hour pillar leads to poverty and hardship. Observe where the Five Elements land to form their manifestations and in which positions they rise. Earth occupying its specialized positions (Chen, Xu, Chou, Wei) signifies a person of厚重 character who is respected; water in the positions of Hai and Zi indicates wisdom, adaptability, and broad-mindedness. Observe the year and fortune cycles to understand blessings and calamities; assess adversity and順境 to determine good and ill fortune. Delve into the subtle nuances of the Five Elements and洞察 the profound mysteries of the Ten Heavenly Stems.
Wood (Jia) encountering the Metal旺 phase (from革) brings wind-related hardships; Earth (Wu) facing the Water旺 phase (润下) leads to漂泊 and困境. The Five Elements change due to losing their favorable positions and transform accordingly. If the Five Elements lose their positions, do not speak of禄马 sharing the same乡; when the time is临旺处, there is no fear of空亡 or死败. All things have their own success and failure. Thus, one must rely on the workings of destiny and thoroughly investigate the origins of the Five Elements' emergence and disappearance. Examine the extraordinary patterns of德秀 in detail to determine good fortune, misfortune, regret, and distress.
Metal旺 and Fire盛, when坚刚 is controlled,反而 forms a useful vessel; Wood盛 and Metal衰 lead to a lifetime of humility and low status. Metal containing water (e.g., Shen, Zi, Chen) brings official禄 and promotion; Water concealing wood (e.g., Hai, Mao, Wei) results in virtuous and noble character, like the Lotus Society. Excessive Metal leads to a propensity for conflict; abundant Water leads to indulgence. Strong Earth (Wu, Ji) brings wealth, while deficient Metal (Geng, Xin) leads to poverty and loneliness. Ding Fire reaching Si often results in漂泊; Xin Metal reaching Zi indicates a rebellious nature. Ji Earth encountering Xu and Wei brings many complications; Geng Metal reaching Hai and Chen reveals elegance and refinement. Wood (Jia, Yi) fears the Metal phase (从革); Earth (Wu, Ji) enjoys the Water phase (润下).
When discussing the six relatives, the Day Stem remains unchanged; when seeking wealth and honor, the Hour Pillar is crucial. The Year Pillar represents the ancestral energy and foundation; the Month Pillar represents the gateway and origin. The Day Master represents one's own energy; the Hour Pillar serves as the basis for引变. The Heavenly Stems paired with the Earthly Branches each return to their positions; manifestations paired with transformations each embody their energy.順逆 and得失 reveal superiority and inferiority;旺相 and休囚 determine categories.
Fire within Wood (e.g., Yin, Wu, Xu) meeting Gui-Si can lead to advancement; Metal within Earth (e.g., Chen, You, Chou) encountering Fire运 may result in decline. A败 time brings poverty, while a丰 time brings wealth. Meeting衰败 often leads to humility; encountering生旺 often brings尊贵. Gui临 Zi位 may grant authority over two government offices; Ding dominating the Li Palace (Wu位) may secure a position among the three highest ranks. Abundant Bing-Ding Fire signifies a love for礼仪; abundant Ren-Gui Water indicates ample wisdom. Each is divided into three grades, with the Earthly Branches following their order.
(Slightly translated Heavenly Stems combinations and Earthly Branches grades) Jia-Ji transforms into Earth, with Chen-Xu-Chou-Wei being superior; Yi-Geng transforms into Metal, with Si-You-Chou-Shen being excellent; Bing-Xin transforms into Water, with Hai-Zi-Chen-Shen achieving success; Ding-Ren transforms into Wood, with Hai-Mao-Wei-Yin accomplishing results; Wu-Gui transforms into Fire, with Si-Wu-Xu-Yin attaining gains. Bing Fire encountering绝地 brings little wealth; meeting Gui旺 in the hour pillar often brings financial abundance. Metal residing in a旺 Fire location may struggle to maintain physical integrity; Earth临 Water's乡 may suffer from chronic illnesses. Gui meeting Geng-Shen may lead to a military career; Xin encountering Wu-Zi may easily achieve high scholarly honors.
The Year Pillar determines the category, while the Hour Pillar conceals the profound mysteries. Summarizing the key points, there are five critical aspects: the penalty of破禄. Transformation leads to loss, and returning to the origin leads to death. An hour pillar临鬼位再逢克 may harm life; residing in a死地复见临官 may lead to demise. Thus,旺处生而死处衰,死处生而旺处脱. Now, carefully studying this profound meaning, it traces back to轩辕黄帝, and those who acquire this art should guard it collectively.
