Capítulo 34 de 68
易经
The Dà Zhuàng hexagram symbolizes the盛大 strength of yang energy at its peak. Its core message is: It is favorable to uphold what is correct and firm.
The Commentary on the Judgement (Tuàn Zhuàn) explains: "Great Strength" means that yang energy is abundant and powerful. The strong can also act with vigor, hence the state of great strength. The reason it is "favorable to uphold what is correct" is that the powerful must walk the path of righteousness. When what is right is combined with what is strong, the truth of heaven and earth can be clearly seen through it.
The Commentary on the Images (Xiàng Zhuàn) draws wisdom from the imagery: Thunder crashes above the heavens — this is the image of Great Strength. The superior person, observing this hexagram, understands that even when in a position of power and strength, one must abide by propriety and absolutely refrain from doing anything that goes against what is proper.
Initial Nine — Taking bold action with the feet invites danger; moving rashly brings misfortune. One should act with sincerity and faithfulness.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: "Strength displayed through the feet" indicates that one's sincerity has been exhausted.
Second Nine — Persevering in what is correct brings good fortune.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: "The Second Nine, firm and correct, brings good fortune" because it occupies the central position and acts without bias.
Third Nine — The petty person uses brute force; the superior person does nothing but never relies on force. Remain firm to guard against danger. It is like a ram butting against a hedge — its horns get entangled.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: The petty person displays strength through force; the superior person should not act in this way.
Fourth Nine — Persevering in what is correct brings good fortune; regret will vanish. The hedge has been breached open, the ram's horns are no longer entangled. One's strength is as firm as the axle of a great carriage.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: The hedge is broken and the ram's horns were freed, indicating that one can continue moving forward.
Fifth Six — The ram was lost in an easy, open place — harm none· Then there is no need for regret.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: "Losing the ram in an easy place" is because a yin line occupies a yang position, which is an improper placement.
Top Six — The ram butts against the hedge. It can neither retreat nor advance. There is nothing favorable. But if one holds firm in the face of adversity, one will eventually attain good fortune.
The Xiàng Zhuàn says: Being unable to retreat nor advance is an inauspicious sign. But holding firm through difficulty and staying true brings good fortune, indicating the misfortune will not last long.
The core idea of the Dà Zhuàng hexagram can be summarized as: In times of great strength, all the more one must uphold what is right.
In a contemporary context, the Dà Zhuàng hexagram may be understood as a profound insight into the relationship between power and constraint.
| Situation | Revelation from Dà Zhuàng | Recommended Action |
|---|---|---|
| 🌱 On the rise in career | The stronger you get, the more you must play by the rules | Carry out a compliance review to ensure you are not crossing lines out of a certain strength |
| ⚔️ Facing conflict/rigid situation | Avoid a ram-charging-the-fence (hard collision) strategy | Assess whether to build up your capacity (Line 4) or to actively withdraw/concede first while calculating losses (Line 5) |
| 👥 Managing a team | Superior strength lies in restraint, not raw force | Combine intstitute-driven rules of engagement with dynamic influence-field versus sheer dominating from your perch |
| 🧭 Decision-making directions | The "advance brings disaster" warning at Lines One & Six | Pump the brakes deliberately before any burst of impulse; proceed regardless only after you have confidence you're authentically loyal to core purpose |
Hypothesis – Action – Review Framework:
The Dà Zhuàng hexagram touches a profound philosophical problem: What is the nature of strength?
Taoism speaks of "the weak overcoming the strong"; Confucianism speaks of "firm and strong, centered and upright." In the Dà Zhuàng hexagram, these ideas reach an unwritten equilibrium. The image is "thunder above heaven"—thunder originally belongs to the earth; when it ascends, its might becomes far-shaking upon declaration, and its prowess is known — this is the Zhuàng ("great, thus heightened," as far from the inherent condition of still, level earth): but relentless or "leg-riding intensity", sweeping un-patterned it wants unruly clamor upon heaven, would bear scourge. Seal at core: "the strength-begets itself into self-worth by unifying de-, for-law a coherent is-power" merges . A true depth of may Be what our strength-naming lacks days.
