🌤 (I)
The Qian hexagram symbolizes heaven; the Zhen hexagram symbolizes thunder and the dragon; Kan and Dui govern overcast skies; the Xun hexagram governs the rising of wind. The movements of Kun and Gen do not herald rain, but when Li (fire) and the mountain interact, the weather becomes clear and warm.
When Li and Kan appear together, it signals alternating rain and shine; when Dui and Li overlap, it signals half overcast, half gloomy conditions. If baleful influences approach the Wei Ji hexagram, fulfillment will ultimately come through; the Ji Ji hexagram, though yin in nature, lacks sufficient rain. When Xun enters the Kan palace, wind precedes rain; when Dui approaches the Kun position, fine drizzles ensue. The Xiao Xu hexagram indicates dense clouds without rain; the Sui hexagram, imbued with moisture, heralds a bountiful harvest year.
When the Qian (heaven) and Kun (earth) hexagrams do not interact, no nourishing rain falls; when yin and yang unite, one gives thanks to the Lord of Heaven. Among the eight pure hexagrams, when the fire line stirs, or in wandering-soul hexagrams, when the wood line stirs, it is as though a fiery umbrella blazes across the vast sky. Di Huo Ming Yi (Earth Fire Bright-Light Obscured) signals murky, dark weather; Huo Lei Shi Ke (Fire Thunder Biting Through) signals flashing red lightnings. When the Li line carries a baleful star, clear skies can be determined; when Zhu Que (the Vermilion Bird) soars, the same conclusion follows. When Da You is not doubled, the sky is clear and airy; when Tong Ren is stilled, sunlight is warm and gentle. When the Jin hexagram has the dragon line, rain is scarce; when the Tun hexagram lacks the thunder-star, only thick clouds are indicated.
When Qing Long (the Azure Dragon) stirs within the Ze Shan Xian hexagram, it is greatly auspicious; when Bai Hu (the White Tiger) interacts within the Tian Shui Song hexagram, it achieves nothing. When Gou Chen bearing Earth holds the World position, there may be overcast clouds, but it will not harm agriculture. When the Xuan Wu water line stirs, torrential rain pours down; when Qing Long and the virtue of Wood move, grace and bounty are inexhaustible. When thunder-stars and water-stars combine within the Kan palace, ...with minimal reservations. When the yao of yin appears while the yang is zhong (heavy/moving), yin conditions will surely manifest; when the yin yao transforms into yang, the yang condition will not validate. Ren and Bing herald flashing lightning and grain receiving moisture; Yi and Geng herald clashing thunder and rain with abundant harvests. If the Responding line faces Bai Hu, it becomes a hollow display; if Gou Chen overcomes the World, it is even more useless. If Xuan Wu overcomes the Self, once can gather the rice harvest; if the fire spirit harms the World, it brings loss to the farmer.
Pure yang stillness often indicates drought; pure yin movement indicates the flowing of the four seas. When the inner and outer hexagrams give birth to each other and odd-even correspond harmoniously, a downpour ensues as one listens to the tinkling sound of water. When Thunder-star and Water-spirit both enter the Kan palace, one should not worry about lack of rain but rather about floods. When the Fire-spirit transforms into water, together with Dragon and Tiger [stars], it darkens in the east while a rainbow forms in the west. If the Dragon line does not stir and only the Xuan Wu water stirs, all efforts to gaze at the sky are in vain. How to divine when rain will arrive? On the day when Water is strong and the Dragon-Self clashes it. If Dragon, Water, Self, and Thunder remain unstirred altogether, then the Nine Rivers and Four Lakes are all deemed sealed by heaven.

The interaction of Gen and fire can be determined as clear weather; when water decays and fire flourishes, the sun's light is bright. For divining clear weather, only look at Geng interacting with Jia; for divining rain, do not let Jia transform into Geng. When Geng and Jia intermingle with the assistance of Dragon and Tiger, fierce winds and violent rain can be heard with thunderous voices. When the Fire line sways and adds to the Li position, the radiant golden crow (sun) ripples its crimson orb.
🌪 (III)
When ordinary people divine about yin and qing (weather), water movement indicates rain, fire movement indicates clear skies, wood movement indicates wind, earth movement indicates overcast gloom, and metal line activity indicates the heaviness of imminent rain.
🌧 (IV)
When the Wealth line stirs, it governs clouds and rain; when Officer-Ghost stirs, it governs thunder; when Offspring moves, it controls the clearing of rosy sunglow. When Father stirs, it governs bursts of clear-then-rain transitions; when Sibling stirs, it controls the onslaught of hail, wind, frost, and snow.
For divining rain: The first line is clouds, the second is lightning, the third is wind, the fourth is thunder, the fifth is rain, and the sixth is heaven. If the first line moves, clouds spread like iron cavalry; if the second moves, lightning flashes like golden serpents; if the third moves, fierce winds uproot trees; if the fourth moves, thunder shakes mountains and rivers; if the fifth moves, torrential rain pours from basins; if the sixth moves, rivers overturn and seas churn.
For divining clear skies: The first line is clouds, the second is dew, the third is rose-tinted clouds, the fourth is rainbow, the fifth is sun and moon, the sixth is heaven. If the first line moves, clouds return to their rocky caves; if the second moves, dew drips from flowers' tips; if the third moves, sunglow brightens like brocade; if the fourth moves, a rainbow arches over the ferry; if the fifth moves, the sun spreads its fiery umbrella; if the sixth moves, heaven is steeped in a crystal vessel (pure clarity).
Water transforming into fire heralds a sudden shower turning to a clear, bright sky; fire transforming into water signals a clear day turning to rain. If the six lines lack both water and fire and happen to encounter emptiness, overcast but rainless weather is indicated.
This section establishes a complete Six-Line meteorological divination system. The core logic combines the Five Elements with the Eight Trigrams, the Six Relatives' movement and transformations, the Six Spirits (divine officers) on the lines, and the linear positions of the lines, all intermixing across four frameworks to create refined judgments about weather changes. The fundamental principle is: Water movement brings rain, Fire movement brings clear skies, Wood movement brings wind, Metal movement brings gloom, and Earth movement signals overcast. At the same time, it emphasizes that the combination of hexagrams carries more weight than a single line's manifestation—for example, if the Kan palace shows an intersection of thunder-star activity and water, it may start with rain but the combined indications of thunder will herald downpours or even floods.
From the perspective of modern meteorology, this system is essentially empirical probabilistic inference. The heavy dependence on weather in agrarian societies brought about a delicate and elaborate set of divination rules. Its underlying premise considers weather as an interplay between Heavenly yang energy and Earthly yin energy: where yang abounds, weather clears; where yin abounds, rain falls; where yin and yang clash, there is thunder and storm; where there is yin within yang, alternating patterns come about. Conceptually, there is some echo of how we describe pressure fronts, air-mass interactions, and water vapor conditions in modern meteorology—observations and projections of interactions between entities in the natural environment. Removing divination associations, the noteworthy value of this system is in sharpening the observer's sensitivity to natural omens: cloud shapes, wind shifts, moisture phases.
The phrase "当天地不相交,则膏泽 (life giving moisture) 将不降" introduces the old adepts' deep syncretism regarding天人交感: A manifestation of the natural climate’shares = its manifestation.
Concept similarly parallels current open systems-analysis if we involve combined anthropogenic effects such weather isn't abstract – generally global through a network dynamics inclusive factors but on globe and oceans and biology.
On ideal *yin-yang interaction, they endorse values of harmonic earth: disruptive climates v basic; this conceptual ancient worldview partially imbued but with attitudes of natural respect toward timely atmospheric transformation is deeply rooted , today paramount considering global accumulation climatic impact resilient.
