Covert activation can be either beneficial or harmful: when the Line of Focus is in decay, receiving life-giving support from a covertly activated Source Line; or when the Bane Line is overtly active in the hexagram, but the Source Line is covertly activated to assist the Line of Focus—these are favorable outcomes 🎉. Conversely, if the Line of Focus is decayed and unsupported, encountering a covertly activated Bane Line that harms or restrains it, this is an unfavorable outcome ⚠️.
The ancients said of covert activation: "Fortune arrives unnoticed, misfortune comes unawares," but I disagree with this view—how could it go unnoticed? How could its effects be slow to manifest?
