When the Sibling line activates, it originally seeks to harm the Wife's Wealth line; but if the Descendant line also activates, it can resolve the situation. What is called "bǎi" (摆) means activating.
The Descendant activating can naturally generate Wealth, but if the Parent activates to overcome the Descendant, the Descendant loses its power to generate Wealth. The Sibling activating originally seeks to overcome Wealth, but if the Descendant activates simultaneously, the Sibling, being fond of generating the Descendant, forgets to overcome Wealth—this is called "greed for generation, forgetting control". Wealth thus receives support instead.
When the Wife's Wealth line activates, it can generate the Officer Ghost; but one must beware of the Sibling activating simultaneously. When the Descendant activates, it can overcome the Officer Ghost; but if the Wealth line activates, it can dissipate the situation. What is called "yáo" (摇) is also activating.
Wealth activating can generate the Officer Ghost. If the Sibling activates to overcome Wealth, the Ghost has no source from which to derive generation. If the Descendant activates, it can overcome the Ghost; but if the Wealth line also activates, it drains the Descendant's energy and instead nourishes the Officer Ghost's spirit.
When the Parent line activates, it can generate the Sibling; one must beware of the Wife's Wealth overcoming it. When the Officer Ghost activates, it originally overcomes the Sibling; but if the Parent activates, it drains the Ghost's energy. The Parent is the Source (原神) of the Sibling—one must beware of Wealth overcoming it. The Officer Ghost is the Inhibitor (忌神) of the Sibling—one welcomes the Parent draining the Ghost's energy.
When Parent activates to generate Sibling, if the Wealth line also activates, then Parent is overcome by Wealth and lacks the strength to generate Sibling. When Officer Ghost activates to overcome Sibling, if the Parent activates, it leaks the Ghost's energy, preventing the Ghost from causing great harm.
When the Officer Ghost activates, it can generate the Parent; one must beware of the Descendant line activating. When the Wife's Wealth activates, it originally overcomes the Parent; but if the Officer Ghost activates, it can mediate between them. What is called "jiāo chóng" (交重) is also activating.
The Ghost activating can generate the Parent. If the Descendant activates, it overcomes and controls the Ghost, and the Ghost cannot generate the Parent. Wealth activating can overcome the Parent. If the Ghost activates simultaneously, the Ghost, in its greed to be generated by Wealth, forgets to overcome the Parent—the Ghost becomes the mediator between Wealth and Parent.
When the Sibling line activates, it can generate the Descendant; one must beware of the Officer Ghost activating. When the Parent activates, it originally overcomes the Descendant; but if the Sibling activates, there is no harm.
The Sibling activating can generate the Descendant. If the Ghost activates to overcome the Sibling, the Descendant loses its Source. The Parent activating can overcome the Descendant. If the Sibling activates, it drains the Parent's ferocity, and the Descendant remains unharmed.
When the Descendant activates, it overcomes the Officer Ghost; if the Parent activates, there is no harm. But if the Sibling activates, the Officer Ghost will surely suffer harm.
The Descendant activating must harm the Officer Ghost. If the Parent activates to overcome the Descendant, the Ghost is safe. If the Sibling activates to generate the Descendant, the Descendant grows stronger, and the Ghost will surely be harmed.
When the Wife's Wealth activates, it overcomes the Parent; if the Sibling activates, there is no cause for worry. But if the Descendant activates, the Parent's life is hard to preserve.
Wealth activating must overcome the Parent. If the Sibling activates to overcome Wealth, Wealth cannot overcome the Parent. If the Descendant activates, it generates and assists Wealth, strengthening Wealth's momentum—the Parent will be difficult to rescue.
When the Parent activates, it overcomes the Descendant; if the Wife's Wealth activates, there is no harm. But if the Officer Ghost activates, the Descendant will surely die.
Parent activating overcomes the Descendant. If Wealth activates to overcome Parent, the Descendant is saved. If the Ghost activates, it further enrages the Parent, and the Descendant will die without doubt.
When the Officer Ghost activates, it overcomes the Sibling; if the Descendant activates, there is rescue. But if the Wife's Wealth activates simultaneously, the Sibling will not last long.
Ghost activating overcomes Sibling. If the Descendant activates to overcome Ghost, the Sibling is saved. If Wealth activates to generate Ghost, the Ghost becomes more vicious, and the Sibling will be difficult to save.
When the Sibling activates, it overcomes the Wife's Wealth; if the Officer Ghost activates, there is no harm. But if the Parent activates, the Wife's Wealth will suffer harm.
Sibling activating overcomes Wealth. If the Ghost activates to overcome Sibling, Wealth remains safe. If Parent activates to generate Sibling, the Sibling becomes even more rampant, and Wealth will surely suffer harm.

The core thought of The Rhyme of Crushed Gold is "movement brings about change." Static lines represent potential and normalcy; active lines represent change and opportunity. The auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the entire hexagram is not determined by its static configuration but by "what has moved" and "how movements interlink with one another." If the matter being divined has no corresponding line in the hexagram (the Useful God does not appear in the hexagram), then worry is written on one's face.

Peng Cheng has secret formulas; do not forget them.
The formula says: If the Descendant falls into Emptiness, worry over distant journeys; if illness encounters Emptiness, one should perform blessings; if chronic illness is Void, the body descends to death; if Wealth is Void, it is difficult to grasp; if Ghost encounters Emptiness, legal disputes cease; if Wife is Void, the wife becomes pregnant; if a maiden is Void, there is an outside affair; if the residence is Void, urgently perform blessings; if Parent is Void, worry over illness arises; if Sibling is Void, one gains no support; if Descendant is Void, one will be lonely and destitute.
Four Clashes indicate collisions and merges; Punishments to the extreme all indicate injury.
Chén-Xū clash, Chǒu-Wèi clash—even if auspicious signs appear, they turn inauspicious. "Bìng" (并) refers to lines in the hexagram that coincide with the day branch (e.g., the Chǒu line coinciding with a Chǒu day). "Xíng" (刑) should refer to the Three Punishments: Zǐ-Mǎo punishment, Yín-Sì-Shēn punishment, Xū-Chǒu-Wèi punishment, and the self-punishments of Chén, Wǔ, Yǒu, Hài. This line is also suspected to be erroneous; "When Descendant activates, men stagnate; when Sibling activates, women suffer calamity" is more reasonable. For women, the husband is seen through the Officer Ghost as the Useful God; when the Descendant line activates and overcomes the Officer Ghost, the man being overcome means obstruction. For men, the wife is seen through the Wealth line as the Useful God; when the Sibling line activates and overcomes the Wife's Wealth, the woman being overcome means calamity.
For travel, it is suitable for the Self line to activate; the Returning Soul hexagram means one does not leave the borders.
In divining travel, a moving Self line indicates that the inquirer has already made preparations and can depart at any time—but a moving Self line is not necessarily auspicious and still requires analysis of the specific hexagram image. When encountering a Returning Soul hexagram, even if one has already left home, one will not travel far before turning back.
When the Other line activates and encounters Three Harmonies, the traveler immediately returns to the village.
When divining a traveler's return date, if the Other line activates, the traveler will arrive home on a Three Harmony day.
In divining a residence, when the Green Dragon flourishes: great wealth ranking first in the country. When the Parent line thrives and flourishes: attaining office up to marquis and king.
In divining a residence, when Green Dragon faces the residence line and is flourishing, it indicates wealth and honor. When the Parent line is flourishing, it indicates joy of academic honor and official rank.
If the Heavenly Joy holds the Self line, public matters will certainly be without hindrance.
This line is more reasonably rendered as "If the Spirit of Blessing holds the Self line, lawsuits will certainly be without hindrance." The Spirit of Blessing refers to the Descendant which, holding the Self line, can overcome the Officer Ghost—thus lawsuits proceed without difficulty.
When Hooked Snake overcomes Dark Warrior, capturing thieves requires no hurry.
Hooked Snake belongs to Earth; Dark Warrior belongs to Water. When the Officer Ghost faces Dark Warrior, it indicates thieves. When the Descendant faces Hooked Snake, it can overcome the Dark Warrior-Officer Ghost, so thieves find it hard to escape, and capture is achieved easily.
When the Father is ill, one dislikes the Great Kill; if Wealth prospers, the Mother will not live long.
This line is more reasonably "When the Father is ill, one dislikes the Wealth Kill; if Wealth thrives, the Mother lives not long." When the Wealth line flourishes, it must overcome the Parent line—thus when divining a parent's illness, it is unfavorable.
Without Ghost, illness is difficult to cure; when Ghost flourishes, one goes insane.
In divining illness, if the Officer Ghost does not appear in the hexagram, it is difficult to determine the cause, and one cannot prescribe targeted treatment. When the Ghost flourishes and overcomes the Self line or the Useful God, the illness is severe.
Consult the ghost-calendar; through prayer and offerings, one obtains peace and health.
Look at which of the Five Elements the Officer Ghost line belongs to, and select the times, directions, physicians, or medicines that overcome, drain, combine with, or transform the Ghost's element for treatment or ritual supplication—this can ensure safety.
In divining marriage, dislike the Wealth being dead; in divining childbirth, look at Yin and Yang.
In a man's divination of marriage, the Wife's Wealth is the Useful God; if the Wealth line is weak and enters the Tomb, the marriage is unfavorable. In divining childbirth, the Descendant line is the Useful God; use the Yin-Yang nature of its earthly branch's Five Element to determine male or female.
If one asks about feng shui, the third and fourth generation hexagrams bring prosperity.
For yin-house (burial) feng shui, the third-generation and fourth-generation hexagrams indicate auspiciousness and prosperity.

When Descendant holds the Self line, all affairs proceed without worry, and the afflictions of the Officer Ghost are concluded. Lost items are easily recovered at this time; business and enterprises proceed from solid grounding.
When the Ghost line holds the Self line, affairs are difficult to settle; divining for oneself brings either illness or litigation. Wealth and possessions are constantly feared lost; blood relatives separate and find reunion difficult.
When Officer Ghost holds the Self line, all affairs are difficult to settle. Divining for oneself indicates either illness or involvement in lawsuits. Wealth and possessions are constantly at risk of loss; family reunions prove difficult.
When the Wealth line holds the Self line, wealth and honor prosper; if asking about wealth, satisfaction is certain. If the Other line additionally receives the Descendant, the Officer Ghost's schemes will come to naught.
When Wife's Wealth holds the Self line, it is favorable for wealth and material gain; seeking wealth will certainly bring satisfaction. If the Other line also receives the Descendant, then Officer Ghost's malicious influence cannot operate.
When the Sibling holds the Self line, it overcomes the Wife's Wealth; worries over officials are not yet finished, and new disturbances arrive. When the Ghost flourishes, guard against disputes and slander; when the self is robust, wealth is certainly diminished.
When Sibling holds the Self line, it inevitably overcomes the Wife's Wealth. Legal worries are not yet concluded, and further troubles arrive. When the Ghost flourishes, guard against gossip and disputes. When the Sibling is vigorous and robust, it will certainly deplete one's finances.
The Rhyme of the Various Lines Holding the Self Line provides quick-reference rules for the fortune implications of each Six Relative holding the Self line. The Self line represents the inquirer; when each Six Relative faces the Self line, it represents the inquirer's current core state and primary contradictions. Descendant holding Self brings blessing; Officer Ghost holding Self brings worry; Wealth holding Self brings benefit; Sibling holding Self brings loss—these are direct projections of the Six Relatives' essential natures at the "self" level.

When Other activates, others change their position; when Other is Void, others' intentions are hard to ascertain; when Self is Void or Self activates, my mind is lazy—I only fear that I myself am reluctant to act.
When the Other line activates, the other party may undergo changes; when Other is Void, the other party's intentions are difficult to fathom. When the Self line is Void or activates, one's own heart is lazy and weary—it is likely one's own unwillingness to act.

The Other line activating means the other party changes their stance; Other being Void means the other party is insincere; Self being Void or active indicates the problem lies on one's own side.

If the Self line is Void, the recommendation is for the inquirer to first adjust their own state before proceeding with affairs.
Between Self and Other lie two medial lines; when they activate, what is sought encounters many obstructions. Even if they have energy and the matter is clearly reasonable, one must employ much wordy discussion before success is attained.
When the two medial lines between Self and Other activate, the matter sought encounters many obstacles. Even if the medial lines have vitality and the matter's rationale is clear, one must expend great effort in repeated negotiation before attaining success.
Between Self and Other lie two medial lines; if the Inhibitor activates, do not associate with them. When Source or Useful God activates within between them, the matter, after a period of drunken confusion, finally reaches its conclusion.
If the medial lines are the Inhibitor activating, one should not engage deeply with them. If the medial lines are the Source or the Useful God activating, the matter must pass through a period of "drunken" chaos and delay before reaching settlement.
Medial lines (间爻) represent the "middle ground" between Self and Other—the intermediaries, obstacles, and third-party factors in the advancement of affairs. Medial lines activating indicate that matters will not progress smoothly. The nature of the medial lines (whether Inhibitor or Source) determines both the quality of resistance and the final outcome.
Medial lines can be understood in modern terms as "intermediate layers": go-betweens, approval processes, logistics chains, third-party interventions, and so forth. Medial lines moving means variables in the intermediate stage. An Inhibitor serving as a medial line means the intermediary will cause problems; a Source serving as a medial line means the intermediate stage ultimately advances the matter—but the process is drawn out and mentally taxing. The metaphor of "事到醘醄" (affairs reaching "drunken dizziness") is remarkably vivid: matters will toss about until one is as dizzy as if drunk before clarity emerges.
When the Body line faces the Officer but no Officer is seen, what is worried about will eventually turn to joy; present crises ultimately become auspicious, and urgent situations gradually ease.
When the Body line faces the Officer Ghost but the Ghost does not appear in the hexagram (hidden and unpresent), the matter of concern will turn from inauspicious to auspicious, and urgent conditions will gradually relax.
When the Body line faces Heavenly Joy or Green Dragon, festivities are certain to enter the house; if the Body line faces Courier Horse and activates, traveling and strategic pursuits all succeed.
