Chapter 30 of 30
奇门遁甲秘笈大全
This diagram illustrates the earth plate layout for Yang Dun Bureau One. First, arrange the formula on the left palm: Jia Zi Wu starts from Kan Palace One, the Six仪 (Yi) fly in forward order (Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui), while the Three Wonders (Ding, Bing, Yi) are placed in reverse order. Based on this, the Value Star (Zhi Fu) and Value Door (Zhi Shi) can be determined, and all other bureaus are derived accordingly. The directions in the diagram are:
| Palace | Qian Six | Dui Seven | Gen Eight | Li Nine |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heavenly Stem | Jia Yin Gui | Ding | Bing | Yi |
| Nine Stars | Tian Xin | Tian Zhu | Tian Ren | Tian Ying |
| Eight Doors | Kai (Open) | Jing (Startled) | Sheng (Life) | Jing (Scene) |
The Tian Qin Star is stationed in the Kun Palace (Jia Chen Ren); Xun Four holds Jia Wu Xin (Tian Fu, Du Door); Zhen Three holds Jia Shen Geng (Tian Chong, Shang Door); Kun Two holds Jia Xu Ji (Tian Rui, Si Door); Kan One holds Jia Zi Wu (Tian Peng, Xiu Door).
The earth plate is fixed and unchanging, embodying the principle that "earth governs stillness," changing once every five days. The heaven plate flows continuously through time, embodying the principle that "heaven governs motion." For example, at the Yi Chou hour, the Xiu Door (Rest Door) is placed on the heaven plate's Kun Palace as the Value Door, and the Value Star Tian Peng (Jia Zi Wu) is placed on Li Palace Nine as the Value Star; all others follow this pattern.
First verse: "Wu Zi Qian Gong Hai Wei Geng, Wu Yin Kan Gen Chou Ren Chen, Wu Wu Sheng Men Tong Jia Mao, Si Gong Wu Xu Er Jiu Shen, Shang You Wu Chen Geng You Xin, Yi Fei Pan Guo Yi Hui Xin, Er Shi Si Pan Fang Shang Qi, Men Cong Fang Shang Ding Jin Ming, Suo Bo Ruo Cha Shi Yi Wei, Jiu Jiang Fang Wei Dong Fang Shen, Ci Shi Jiu Xing Zhen Mi Jue, Xiao Xiong Na Ji Wan Quan Heng."
Second verse: "Yi Pan Xi Qu Liang Pan Dong, Er Zhi Jing Wei Zai Ci Zhong, Yi Er Que Cong Tian Shang Luo, Ba Jiu Shun Cong Di Xia Tong, Er Jiu Fu Cong Ding Jiu Bing, Yi Bing Shan Shan Jin Qi Feng, San Si Guo Qu Zhong San Jiu, Yi Pan Qi Qu Yi Pan Gong, Ci Fang Ji Shi Zhen Shen Nv, Jiu Jiu Yi Lai Lu Shang Tong, Fei Shi Xian Ren Mo Wang Yu, Pa Jiang Ji Qiao Luan Yan Qiong."
The Zi (Rat) hour is placed upon the Value Door. Yang Dun counts forward, Yin Dun counts backward, and the Jade Maiden hour falls into the corresponding palace.
Example: In Yang Dun Upper Prime, on a Jia or Ji day at the Yi Hai hour, the Value Door is in Palace Three, so the Xiu Door is placed on the Kun Palace. Starting from the Mao position for the Zi hour and counting forward to the Hai hour, one can determine which palace the Hai hour falls in—in this case, the Gen Palace above the Jing Door. At this time, step out two paces with the left foot first, with the heavenly canopy protecting the body, moving as hidden as a leopard's tail, invisible to both man and ghost.
This method follows the Flying Palace pattern and is divided into Yin and Yang Dun. For example, on a Jia or Ji day at the Jia Zi hour during the Winter Solstice Upper Prime, Nine Heaven is at the Xiu Door and Nine Earth is at the Li Palace; on a Jia or Ji day at the Jia Zi hour during the Summer Solstice Upper Prime, Nine Earth is at the Xiu Door and Nine Heaven is at the Li Palace. All others follow this pattern.
The verse says: "Red Path, White Path, and Yellow Path—do not avoid them for a thousand years and you will never arrive; the remaining six paths are auspicious spirits, truly excellent when combined with Qi Men Dun." The method of concealment must distinguish between paths, and among the Dun paths, the Red, White, and Yellow paths must be especially carefully avoided. Otherwise, even with the Three Wonders present and auspicious doors, the Dun will not function, inevitably bringing ten kinds of calamities.
These are the Yang hours of Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, and Wu; when the spirits reside in heaven, one must know this. Yin hours follow the same pattern of derivation.
The Jin Han Yu Jing is a work attributed to Zhuge Liang of the Shu Han dynasty. At the end of the Han dynasty during the Yellow Turban Rebellion, heroes arose throughout the realm. Cao Cao and his son, Sun Quan, Zhou Yu, and others were all renowned for their military skill, yet Kongming (Zhuge Liang) with the Lord of Shu marched against enemies and moved freely between Wu and Wei, winning victories with both conventional and unorthodox tactics. What was the reason? It was precisely due to the book Jin Han Yu Jing. This book originated when the ancient sage-emperor Xuanyuan (Yellow Emperor) defeated Chi You—or rather, could not defeat him at first—and after fasting and praying, was moved by the Nine Heavens Mysterious Woman, who imparted to him the art of commanding the Six Ding Jade Maidens, arranging the Dun Jia day by day and hour by hour, using the Eight Doors to determine fortune and misfortune and to distinguish victory and defeat both internally and externally. This was compiled into a secret text passed down to the world. Kongming obtained it in a cave among the Dragon Gate Mountains, and used it to march his troops and win battles, so that all the generals of Wei and Wu called him divine.
Kongming believed this book deserved to be transmitted to posterity, so he himself drew complete charts for all twelve double-hours of every day in the sixty Jiazi cycle, recording the Nine Stars on duty and the fortune or misfortune, success or failure of each door, to be used for selecting auspicious times in military campaigns. Its accuracy was as reliable as an echo, and it was named the Jin Han Yu Jing Tu (Golden Box and Jade Mirror Chart). Kongming once said that this book was used for marching armies in times of war, and through the ages it has been indispensable for daily divination of auspicious times and travel. Generals throughout history who understood military affairs have treasured and kept it secret, and few have transmitted it. The compiler studied military arts for twenty years and read through all the military classics and stratagems, but only Master Sun's Art of War and this chart complemented each other as outer and inner application—truly a national treasure. This edition comes from a copy preserved in the collection of General Di Qing of the present dynasty, itself drawn from the archives of Elder Huangyan of Zhongnan Mountain, and is here transcribed and disseminated widely, awaiting future generations of wise and loyal strategists.
Method for Yang Dun forward movement through the nine palaces after the Winter Solstice (one palace per day, completing on the Jia Xu day; all others follow this pattern):
On Jia Zi day, start at the Gen Palace; Jia Xu flies into the Li Palace; Jia Shen enters the Kan Palace; Jia Wu remains in the Kun Palace without moving; Jia Chen enters the Zhen Palace; Jia Yin enters the Xun Palace. Each of the Nine Stars displays its remarkable power, and there is a method for the Grand Unity (Tai Yi) when on duty.
For example, on Jia Zi day: Gen begins with Tai Yi, Li receives She Ti, Kan receives Xuan Yuan, Kun receives Zhao Yao, Zhen receives Tian Fu, Xun receives Qing Long, the Center Palace receives Xian Chi, Qian receives Tai Yin, and Dui receives Tian Yi. This is the method of the Nine Stars moving forward through the nine palaces.
Method for Yin Dun backward movement through the nine palaces after the Summer Solstice:
On Jia Zi day, start at the Kun Palace; Jia Xu enters the Kan Palace; Jia Shen enters the Li Palace; Jia Wu enters the Gen Palace; Jia Chen enters the Dui Palace; Jia Yin enters the Qian Palace. The Nine Palaces' Tai Yi moves in reverse.
For example, on Jia Zi day: Kun begins with Tai Yi, Kan receives She Ti, Li receives Xuan Yuan, Gen receives Zhao Yao, Dui receives Tian Fu, Qian receives Qing Long, the Center Palace receives Xian Chi, Xun receives Tai Yin, and Zhen receives Tian Yi. This is the method of the Nine Stars moving in reverse through the nine palaces.
| Order | Star Name | Five Elements | Fortune/Misfortune |
|---|---|---|---|
| One | Tai Yi (Grand Unity) | Water | Auspicious |
| Two | She Ti (Source Holder) | Earth | Inauspicious |
| Three | Xuan Yuan | Wood | Neutral |
| Four | Zhao Yao (Beckoning) | Wood | Neutral |
| Five | Tian Fu (Heavenly Charm) | Earth | Inauspicious |
| Six | Qing Long (Azure Dragon) | Metal | Auspicious |
| Seven | Xian Chi (Brackish Pool) | Metal | Inauspicious |
| Eight | Tai Yin (Great Yin) | Earth | Auspicious |
| Nine | Tian Yi (Heavenly Unity) | Fire | Auspicious |
Method for Yang Dun placing the Eight Doors after the Winter Solstice: Yang stems (Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, Ren) place the Eight Doors in forward order; Yin stems (Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, Gui) place the Eight Doors in reverse order.
Method for Yin Dun placing the Eight Doors after the Summer Solstice: On Jia, Wu, Ren, and Zi days, the Xiu Door begins from the Li Palace, changing once every three days—Yang moves forward, Yin moves in reverse.
The Eight Doors occupy fixed positions: Kun Two (Si/Death), Dui Seven (Jing/Startled), Qian Six (Kai/Open), Li Nine (Jing/Scene), Center Five, Kan One (Xiu/Rest), Xun Four (Du/Blocked), Zhen Three (Shang/Harm), Gen Eight (Sheng/Life).
Formula for activating the Xiu Door: For example, after the Winter Solstice in Yang Dun, counting forward, on Jia, Wu, Ren, and Zi days the Xiu Door is at Kan One, the Sheng Door at Gen Eight, and the Kai Door at Qian Six. On Yi Chou day, the Xiu Door remains at Kan, the Sheng Door shifts to Qian, and the Kai Door moves to Gen. On Bing Yin day, the Xiu Door is still at Kan. Changes occur once every three days—Yang moves forward, Yin moves in reverse. For example, on Ding, Xin, and Yi Mao days, the Xiu Door moves to Kun Two.
Formula for the Nine Stars' flying palace activation: After the Winter Solstice, Yang Dun moves forward. On Jia Zi day, start with Tai Yi at Gen Eight, then forward: She Ti at Li Nine, Xuan Yuan at Kan One, Zhao Yao at Kun Two, Tian Fu at Zhen Three, Qing Long at Xun Four, Xian Chi at Center Five, Tai Yin at Qian Six, and Tian Yi at Dui Seven. Changes occur once daily. After the Summer Solstice, Yin Dun moves in reverse. On Jia Zi day, start with Tai Yi at Kun Two, moving backward through Kan One.
Tai Yi, Water Spirit: When Tai Yi appears at the door, this star is also called Tan Lang. Gambling brings much wealth, marriage is greatly auspicious. Going out has no obstacles, visiting the worthy brings honor. When meeting someone in dark clothing who comes seeking audience, both visits and marriage are greatly auspicious.
She Ti, Earth Spirit: Distant travel meets with hindrance, plowing fields damages oxen and plows. If mutually generating, one may ask further; if mutually overcoming, disaster and danger appear. When seen together with the Si (Death) Door, an old woman weeps in sorrow. Seeking wealth and marriage are all unsuitable. It indicates hiding and concealment; acting or speaking brings harm to the body.
Xuan Yuan, Wood Spirit: Going out and meeting Xuan Yuan, all affairs become entangled. If mutually generating, calamity slowly encroaches; if mutually overcoming, anxiety and distress follow. Distant travel meets with delays, gambling definitely loses money. On the road, be alert within fifteen li.
Zhao Yao, Wood Spirit: Zhao Yao is named the Wood Star, when it fronts the door all affairs succeed. If mutually overcoming, travelers are blocked, and yin people bring gossip and disputes. Strange dreams bring much fright, and house sounds and self-ringing bells (pans) are heard. Meeting two relatives and then encountering women's quarrels, and neighbors' bells ringing and walls sounding are inauspicious.
Tian Fu, Earth Spirit: Five Ghosts is Tian Fu, when it fronts the door, yin women scheme. If mutually overcoming, no good events occur, and guests on journeys are delayed. Lost items are hard to recover, and mourning visitors bring isolation. When this star fronts the door, one must especially avoid calamitous paths. In battle, charging forward and meeting the enemy, provisions for the army will be favorable.
Qing Long, Metal Spirit: When the Azure Dragon appears within the door, seeking wealth brings joy upon joy. Whenever tea, wine, and food are encountered, gambling will certainly be won. If mutually generating, wealth and money flourish; do not speak of overcoming, breaking, or punishment. Receiving nobles and setting up camps, all affairs are harmonious and happy. On the road, meet a physician or a wine immortal.
Xian Chi, Metal Spirit: The Fifth General is called Xian Chi, when it fronts the door, affairs are unsuitable. If mutually generating, there are no breaches; if mutually overcoming, disaster and danger follow. Gambling brings losses, seeking wealth returns empty-handed. Military affairs are disrupted by false alarms, and contrary winds repeatedly blow. One must not march troops against the enemy.
Tai Yin, Earth Spirit: When Great Yin appears before the door, none of the hundred calamities can harm. After traveling six or seven li, a close friend will come seeking. After six or seven li, a child leading a sheep will arrive; seeking wealth is accomplished and auspicious. If there are ambushes blocking the road, be cautious and do not travel lightly.
Tian Yi, Fire Spirit: When the Heavenly Unity star meets the door, mutually generating, all affairs succeed. All actions are harmonious, tea and wine naturally come to greet. Seeking a marriage or conducting a wedding, meeting each other is naturally destined. When going to war and facing formation, victory is certain at first sight. Travel thirty li and see a woman in five-or-six-colored clothing carrying a child—all affairs are auspicious.
Xiu Door (Water Spirit, Tan Lang): Seeking wealth and visiting nobles brings honor, going out and marriage bring five blessings. When the Xiu Door meets the road, and especially encounters auspicious things, hearts are at ease.
Sheng Door (Earth Spirit, Zuo Fu): Going out and meeting the Sheng Door—the auspicious star overhead, all affairs succeed. If inauspicious spirits obstruct, seeking wealth still brings satisfactory profit. At twenty li, a flying bird comes to greet—greatly auspicious.
Shang Door (Wood Spirit, Lu Cun): Going out to seek wealth and meeting Shang, even with an auspicious star overhead, difficulties remain hard to bear. You must guard your own body against disaster. Travel will surely bring encounters with apparitions, noisy disputes, knotted leaks, and bloody injuries.
Du Door (Wood Spirit, Wen Qu): The Du Door is suitable for public matters and travel; tea and wine naturally detain guests. If one wishes to flee as refuge, even the source wood will not succeed. Suitable for travel, visiting nobles, and seeking wealth.
Jing Door (Fire Spirit, Lian Zhen): Traveling and going out within the Scene Door, without overcoming or generating it brings neither fortune nor misfortune. It is strongest for celebrations and amusements; hunting and fishing yield little. At forty li, joyful sounds will surely be heard.
Si Door (Earth Spirit, Ju Men): For visits and seeking plans, entering the Death Door—even auspicious spirits arriving are worn away, unsuitable to contemplate. Death, injury, grief, and mourning are all unfavorable. Suitable for hunting, netting, and slaughter. At twenty li, death or injury will surely appear by the roadside.
Jing Door (Metal Spirit, Po Jun) : Seeking lost runners by going out through the Startled Door—the escaped person and goods will all be recovered. The Startled Door certainly brings false alarms; going out and meeting it, none of a hundred endeavors succeeds. Unsuitable for travel or assuming office. At six or seven li, startling anomalies will surely be seen.
Kai Door (Metal Spirit, Wu Qu): Going out and entering the Opening Door is the best by far—all affairs flow smoothly, greatly auspicious and prosperous. Going out to seek wealth will certainly bring joy, and undertakings in all directions succeed equally. Suitable for assuming office, visiting nobles, and seeking wealth. At thirty li, a woman or a person in colored clothing will surely appear in response.
Xiu Door (Rest Door): Meeting Qing Long, all affairs are freely blessed; seeking profit and wealth bring profits a hundredfold; deploying troops and arranging formations certainly breaks the enemy's vanguard. Meeting Tai Yi, all affairs flourish; raising camp and establishing strongholds inevitably leads to victory. Meeting Tian Yi, going out and seeking wealth is grandly fluent and full of fortune, with many encounters with nobles.
Sheng Door (Life Door): Meeting Qing Long, audiences with nobles and strategic undertakings all lead to success; commerce surely gains profit a thousandfold. Meeting Tai Yi brings blessings and virtue abundantly; all one asks for comes as the heart desires, freely executed. Meeting Tian Yi, going out and re-entering certainly meets no conflicts or strife; deploying arrays and aligning troops all achieve victory.
Kai Door (Opening Door): Meeting Qing Long, seeking profit reaps great returns; audiences and official visits meet with favor. Meeting Tai Yi, Raiding camps has a clear reputation—both the superior base and rear camps. There have rarely been generals with a wild manner devouring anything that keeps, even good small ears just pay. Hence separate rooms sound auspicious as long-term meanings.

The Five Unfavorable Hours occur when the hourly stem overcomes the daily stem. Even with Qi Men's miraculous arrangements, nothing is favorable—diminishing both sun and moon, unworthy of regard. If the Three Wonders of Dun Jia—Yi, Bing, Ding—are allied with the Three Auspicious Doors (Open, Rest, Life) but the Five Unfavorable Hours is met, all actions of mobilizing troops, appointment, assuming office, long travel, and construction are ill-fated and must be avoided resolutely. For example, on a Jia day at the Wu or Wei hour, the hourly stems Geng and Xin (Metal) overcome the daily stem Jia (Wood).
Xiu (Rest) Door suits going out—nobles stay. Du (Blockade) Door conceals the person—thus anxieties fly away. Jing (Scene) Door seeking wealth extracts profits ample. Shang (Harm) Door for debt collection will eagerly reap returns. Sheng (Life) Door for nuptial-travel is auspicious both ways. Jing (Alarm) Door with its occurrence may give partial joy to self or a surprise. Si (Death) Door for capture implements springes with nets to capture birds and day—achieved, flaying half done offers steady eyes. Kai (Opening) Door prevails throughout all nine states. Moving on its suiting, every occasion holds first-rank display.
Tai Yi—most everywhere, fair tide commodes actions through. Where Shu Ti enters, that quarter must fetch calamity deeper than last move's throe. When Zhao Yao imports and exports, rain-delays arrive amassed. Xuan Yuan thump sharp word for: brawls draw — a red rain-turning, and flying-blade cracks en-counter rare care demanded while must marching early abroad crossways far traveler. Formula for activating the Azure Dragon (regardless of Winter or Summer Solstice, always counting forward):
On Zi and Wu days, the Azure Dragon arises at Shen; Mao and You days, arises at Yin; Yin and Shen days, arises at Zi; Si and Hai days, arises at Wu; Chen and Xu days, arises at Chen; Chou and Wei days, arises at Xu.
The twelve spirits are counted forward: Qing Long (Azure Dragon) → Ming Tang (Bright Hall) → Tian Xing (Heavenly Punishment) → Zhu Que (Vermilion Bird) → Jin Kui (Golden Coffer) → Tian De (Heavenly Virtue) → Bai Hu (White Tiger) → Yu Tang (Jade Hall) → Tian Lao (Heavenly Prison) → Xuan Wu (Dark Warrior) → Si Ming (Director of Fate) → Gou Chen (Hooked Array).
Yellow Path hours: Azure Dragon, Bright Hall, Golden Coffer, Heavenly Virtue, Jade Hall, Director of Fate. Black Path hours: Heavenly Punishment, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, Heavenly Prison, Dark Warrior, Hooked Array.
Activating the Heavenly Nobleman: Jia, Wu, and Geng are served by Ox and Goat; Yi and Ji by Rat and Monkey; Bing and Ding by Boar and Rooster; Ren and Gui by Rabbit and Snake; Xin encounters Horse and Tiger. Meeting the Nobleman turns misfortune into fortune.
Activating the Road-Blocking Void (Jie Lu Kong Wang): Jia and Ji sites in Kun; Yi and Geng in Li; Bing and Xin in Xun; Ding and Ren in Zhen; Wu and Gui in Qian and Kan. When an hour falls void of noble or absent fullness, fortune and misfortune both an unimportant chance-for good was from use never accrues as now.
Activating the Joy Spirit: Jia and Ji in Gen, Yi and Geng in Qian, Bing and Xin in Kun, Ding and Ren in Li, Wu and Gui in Xun. When prevailing at that hour the Joy Spirit's space conveys desires a can be extended tinder-hearth fashion as opportunity readily flows unblocked will making near runs (fit: given proper usage reading) nothing fail present good growth as likely: even if then rare-felling fine from expected rims no: drop weir tide-flange break-settlement yield the call above fixed hour; sum freely season's best at-door let actual response not stray too mark.
Five Elements Mutual Generation and Overcoming: Jia and Yi (Wood) overcome Wu and Ji (Earth); Wu and Ji (Earth) overcome Ren and Gui (Water); Ren and Gui (Water) overcome Bing and Ding (Fire); Bing and Ding (Fire) overcome Geng and Xin (Metal); Geng and Xin (Metal) overcome Jia and Yi (Wood). Mutual generation: Wood generates Fire, Fire generates Earth, Earth generates Metal, Metal generates Water, Water generates Wood.
Earthly Branch Five Elements: North: Hai and Zi are Water; East: Yin and Mao are Wood; South: Si and Wu are Fire; West: Shen and You are Metal; Four Corners: Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei are Earth.
Should the Winter Solstice or Summer Solstice occur, on a Jia day the forward/backward pattern changes. If Jia falls within seven days before the Winter Solstice, follow the post-Summer-Solstice backward pattern; for three days after the solstice there too follows a de facto conclusion — stepping until the fourth rotation reaches another Jia day then will use winter pattern for descending from peak leap-heavens for its total height's future breathing: the so-named "Transcending Qi (Chao Shen)" — A season's arriving—spirit uses leaping overhead; run known-same simply count stage per-arrangement reach ahead the winter-middle chi takes the pure signs mark with that season's gait-step system switch confirm before arrival unknown beyond the range branch read directly over formula said named.
For which the compiler's method's Note: when spread from year all into fields wrap double per second toward final function also needs; since sol-air center) internal scan fine; when sol-node fit original later (with point round find string fixed anchor) likely not connect then convert around so walk order heads bridge (jichu) beyond every Xun ji day's full-count descent starts right even among further thus in convention schedule mark it (1) only join which correspond "conversion for final": Two choices finish general works.
Add special illustration actually appended because even published approach indeed every-man among cases so similar after sol turns "above window" edge available next all over near that long exact pure cases said fine but sequence ease-mult space forms changed fast broad useful across terrain two day rule counting with to move where well kept turns no lost exact: sequence: rather tables computed maybe add double-weight ordinary lists mark seven within certain branch rare require twist cross tie; given broad here no more examples beyond.
However at using we perform also maybe better than so-fill single case: When past sol turns both time exceed found left residual stable else the compass explains by doubling early going like cross rule (shortest bend).
Writer's textual note: it currently day record full chi order — any match common after counting then get accurate system, divided interior Chi network guard remove external wraps. Currently all fits even ten days = simply overhead an original carry on top and due a season gone slight later clear then attached; no final wasted on side counting.
Hence reason for circulating pair-yang seasons opens positive two quick door systems with can subtle we return answer needed part too near busy: Full-required map three most apply, complement practical instead — rare more fit keep tide bend from left two move before at every three out often vary avoid actually no obstruction out ordinary sky easy hit difference already.

Combined fixed map separately better also stop short of head count through (going after should review natural pairs mid book feel decent fold format end already notes only pass here convenience much). — optional placement paper scroll carries effectively far practical unlike repetition everything: small size certainly select.
Numerical Values — Heavenly Stems: Jia/Ji = 9, Yi/Geng = 8, Bing/Xin = 7, Ding/Ren = 6, Wu/Gui = 5. Earthly Branches: Zi/Wu = 9, Chou/Wei = 8, Yin/Shen = 7, Mao/You = 6, Chen/Xu = 5, Si/Hai = 4.
Method of Use: For travel on a Jia-Zi day, both Jia and Zi have the value 9; 2 × 9 = 18. If the Mao hour (value 6) is used, the total is 24—auspicious. If the Wu hour (value 9) is used, the total is 27—inauspicious. For the day, both stem and branch are considered; for the hour, only the earthly branch, not the heavenly stem.
Auspicious and Inauspicious Values:
| Value | Auspicious/Inauspicious | Manifestation |
|---|---|---|
| 13 | Auspicious | In the northwest Qian palace, an elderly woman holding cotton cloth leads a young girl—prosperity and good fortune |
| 14 | Inauspicious | Someone approaches from the northeast, on a white horse or gray donkey, wearing purple and carrying a bow—unsuitable for marriage or long journeys |
| 15 | Auspicious | A young woman in the south leading an ox and holding a baby; sun and moon ahead—all affairs excellent |
| 16 | Auspicious | Birds flying in the northeast, white-clothed figures in the northwest—a noble person will be met, bringing profit and blessings |
| 17 | Inauspicious | Wind, rain, and clouds in the northwest; mourners in white in the west; a corpse lies ahead, illness follows behind |
| 18 | Auspicious | A young woman in the south, with a dog or gray donkey—all affairs auspicious, and promotion is certain |
| 19 | Inauspicious | Crows, magpies, bows, and crossbows; bronze and iron dancing in the east—all ill omens; stillness is best |
| 20 | Inauspicious | In the north, a man with a donkey drives pigs and sheep away—all affairs bring misfortune |
| 21 | Auspicious | In the east, a filial son meets a woman—all affairs are auspicious and prosperous |
| 22 | Auspicious | A beggar leaning on a staff; drum and flute sounds from the west—all affairs are fortunate |
| 23 | Inauspicious | A man and woman bearing precious swords; in the south, a person holding an iron vase—action brings trouble, stillness brings peace |
| 24 | Auspicious | From the south comes a spirit of blessing—a young woman holding coins; meeting officials is favorable; marriage without fault |
| 25 | Auspicious | A donkey and a monkey, and a woman in the south—all affairs satisfy the heart |
| 26 | Auspicious | Official documents travel in the north; a child cries in the south—descendants will receive official rank; greatly auspicious, no doubt |
| 27 | Inauspicious | A white horse and purple donkey—one rider departs from the west; this value is the most inauspicious of all |
