Capítulo 8 de 78
黄帝内经·素问
Overall Paraphrase
The Yellow Emperor asked: I wish to hear your explanation of the relationships of mutual coordination, supremacy, and subordination among the twelve internal organs of the human body—how do they function together?
Qi Bo replied: Your question is indeed most detailed and thorough! Allow me to explain one by one.
The Heart is like the sovereign ruler of a kingdom; the spirit, consciousness, and all mental activities of a person arise from here. The Lungs are like the prime minister who assists the sovereign, regulating the body's qi and governing overall function—all of this emanates from here. The Liver is like the general who commands troops in battle; strategizing and deliberation arise from here. The Gallbladder is like the impartial judge within this government; the capacity for discernment and decision-making originates from here. The Danzhong (the pericardium, the membrane surrounding the heart along with its corresponding meridians) is like the sovereign's emissary; emotions of joy and happiness are transmitted outward from here. The Spleen and Stomach are like the granaries of the state; the essence of the five flavors from food and drink is transformed and distributed here. The Large Intestine is like the channel of transport and elimination; food residues undergo further transformation and are expelled from the body here. The Small Intestine is like the organ of receiving and containing; it takes in the food that has been decomposed by the stomach and further differentiates and absorbs it. The Kidneys are like the officials in charge of construction; the body's strength, vigor, and exquisite skills and endowments are generated from here. The Sanjiao (the qi-transformation channel running through the upper, middle, and lower burners) is like the official overseeing water conservancy; the passages through which fluids circulate throughout the body are kept open and unblocked by it. The Urinary Bladder is like the regional capital of a locality; fluids are stored here, and only through the transformative action of qi can they be discharged from the body.
These twelve organs, each with their official roles, must not lose harmony and coordination with one another. Therefore, if the sovereign (the Heart) is clear and tranquil, then the subordinates (the other organs) remain calm and orderly. To nourish life according to this principle, one may attain longevity and avoid major illness for a lifetime; to govern the world according to this principle, the state will flourish and prosper.
If the sovereign (the Heart) is clouded and unclear, then all twelve organs will fall into danger, the channels of communication between the organs will become blocked and obstructed, and the physical body will suffer great injury. To nourish life in this state will inevitably invite calamity; to govern the world in this state, its very foundations will face grave crisis. One must be cautious, ever cautious!
The most profound principles often lie hidden in the exceedingly subtle and minute. Transformations are without end—who can truly fathom their roots? Truly difficult indeed! Those who devote themselves to learning labor diligently without rest, yet who can grasp the essential points? Those doctrines that appear right yet are not—what truly is correct? Those subtle changes that seem present yet absent, as if coming and going in haziness—becoming like unseen tiny manifestations can they be seem? Such tiny beginnings may arise from even more fundamental standards of measurement;
From here they expand and extend a thousandfold, ten thousandfold, continuously unfolding and broadening,
It is then that the complete forms and governing principles of things become established and manifest.
Some interpretations note forms needing command: If one fails to command all (read: for states standard basis), yet understanding and interpretation aligns—for careful to detail.

The Yellow Emperor then observed:
And for compliance due care details and seasons stay unbroken (by choices) actual within rule.
The entirety was thus kept sage and prized within the Linglan Chamber (the classical archive of emperors) for its worthy continuance for body-mind transmission.
The central scholarly perspective of this chapter is the "Twelve Officials Mutually Assisting" theory within Zangxiang (Visceral Manifestation) doctrine—that: analogizing human visceral activities to varied offices in the ancient state bureaucratic machinery establishes a holistic functional model led by the Heart, wherein every viscus has division of roles coordinated together.
Logic core of this proposition:
First: Functional specialization viewed under holistic imperative. Every entity processed specific unique capacities paralleling separate offices: the Heart as sovereign pertaining clarity against oversight run masters vs governance perhaps analog Modern sci post discernment deeper Second: “When the ruler is enlightened, the subordinates are at peace”, indicates hierarchical axis:** The twelve viscera exclude parity alternate leading-follow positioned main ordering - The Heart = organ of highest governance: , clarity mentis determinest still entire scheme constant compatible thought-control unification likewise Along plausible due remarks modern neuro - then integrative idea appears—though with simplicity *channels notion—ruler comprehension older nuance awareness directional etc but barely in post-Renaissance familiarity modern anatomical terms exact mental capacity acknowledged as plexus forebrain factual anatomical site cortex. Third: Principle: ”Mutual No Dereliction“ —official organs functioning must maintain mutual integrative coordination continuing each subset casualty spreads general loss interdependence & restraint marks the basis of TCM architecture.
